I just looked at some pics of Chernobyl, nighttime. That place was abandoned 20 years ago, so of course there aren't any lights left, the place is just dark.

How, in Half-Life 2, there are still lights everywhere. Like Ravenholm, that is abandoned zombie town. Why does every building in that town still have lights on? It doesn't make any sense.

And City 17, when you were at Citadel and saw the top-down view, it was lights everywhere!

So how is it possible that after world being under Combine invasion for 10+ years, there still are lights everywhere. And somehow, the lights aren't on at day, they just automatically turn on at night.

Because the place isn't abandoned like Chernobyl. Father Grigori still lives in Ravenholm and keeps the lights going, presumably through power still being supplied by the dam, and more than likely he has a number of backup generators.

City 17 is still a populated city, and quite a large one at that. Why wouldn't there be lights?

Then what about White Forest Inn?

And Antlion caves.

The Combine occupied White Forest Inn thus lights were on and in the antlion caves.......a wizard did it.

Sheckley and Griggs in the antlion cave. You see power generators everywhere down there.

if the people in ravenholm were running away from headcrabs and zombies terrified, I doubt they would bother to save electricity. The houses weren't badly damaged as you can see in the game. Chernobyl was a disaster and must have been cut off from the rest of soviet lands so it wouldn't have got any electricity. I don't remember there being lights at white forest inn but maybe the combine generator was feeding power to the inn as well as the combine shield wall.

In the Half-Life future, light-bulb technology is as advanced as their portal technology. The tradeoff is that ancient slug-like beings from beyond the universe will leave you alive for you to make bulbs that last longer and are more efficient.

That is great theory:D

Well, Chernobyl provided the power did it not? So its surprising the lights are off.
