I have mild experience with 3DSmax but I am using Softimage because it's free. However, I can't figure out for the life of me how to flatten the UVW mapping. Thanks in advance.

Wow, the reply on this forum is thoroughly hosed on Safari. In any case, all actions in XSI are stored on a stack similar to 3DS, to access the stack you hit 8 then find the object, after you expand the object you will see all actions taken on it. You can select individual actions I believe and right click to freeze them. If that fails you can freeze the whole model by hitting the freeze button and that will collapse the stack. If you are pretty sure of yourself you can turn on immediate mode to make it so that no actions are saved.

Hope that helps!

If you mean how to unwrap an object - please look at UV Tutorial. You want the TurboChi UV Texturing tutorial.

If you want to freeze the UVs then open the texture editor and use Edit>Freeze UVs
