I am playing for the first time, yeah... I am a little behind.

In Ravenholm, concering Father Grigori's trap - fan mounted onto a car engine; should the blades be spining initially?

I took a peak into the walk-through and it said "Lure some zombies down your way, duck, and switch on the blades."

It really doesn't matter.

The only reason I asked was I needed to replay Black Mesa East just once, because the first time "Dog" never picked up the dumpster triggering the scripted game play events with surprise Combine attack. The first time, Dog just stood next to the merry-go-round and did nothing.

So, that was kinda odd...

Anyways, I figure this might be a *glitch* that I just need to replay sometimes.

Thanks,

This thread doesn't make sense...

...or I'm just an idiot.

huh what a confusing first post lol

well he might have left it on - its more likely valve were simply showing the player what happened first with the trap rather than have thousands of first timers go up, flick the switch and then get decapitated!

but good call on replaying the level to get past a glitch - so many idiots post here immediately upon encountering a problem without doing some sensible diy first
kudos - get back to enjoying the game and welcome to hl2.net

Thanks,

Did you buy the retail version, or did you buy it directly of Steam?

There are several blade traps. The first one you come across should already be spinning. The second can be started up with 'E'. A later one breaks, sending the blade flying.

Sometimes the AI switches itself off or something. I think this was once linked to pirated copies of the game at some point, but I think it happens on legitimate versions as well. I'm not aware what the fix is, but someone else probably does.

Edit: click this link? validating the files apparently does some magic or some such
steam://validate/220

kupoartist & john3571000: Thank you that was what I was looking for.

To answer the other question: I purchased and downloaded my copy directly from Steam.

BTW: What was confusing? I just asked if the blades should be spinning - yes or no.

:)

The difference being that legal versions can turn it off by reloading the level/ai_disable 0

:)

Sometimes it's already spinning, sometimes you have to switch it on, it varies :P
