Ravenholm is a Half-Life 2 singleplayer experience, were the player takes the role of a rebel in the Ravenholm-part in Half-Life 2. Although you revisit a part of Ravenholm found in Half-Life 2, you visit new areas as well.
The enemy you fight mostly in Ravenholm is, as you guessed, Headcrabs and Zombies... And there are loads of ém.

Despite some of the levels ran crappy on my computer and maybe a little "overkill" with all the Zombies, I found Ravenholm to be a fun experience and quite lengthy. It's also quite challenging at some parts so be prepared. :)

You can download it here.

If you are referring to the forest-area, I agree. I ran around that area more than an hour desperately looking for where to go. Gladly I made it through after a while but just to, further into the game, coming to a second forest-area. I just thought to myself "Bah… seriously".

now come on it wasn't that bad... i finished it in like an hour.

I am not sure what to think. I am in chapter 3, and it's pretty easy so far.

Here are my quirks:
- It uses just about every trick Half-life 1 and 2 used.
- It feels very empty and pointless.
- The puzzles aren't very innovative.
- The horror resembles Doom 3- crab jumps at you from a corner , zombies randomly appear, zombies always are in position to toss a barrel at you.
- Many moments you can predict happening.

But I did like
- The tension
- The lack of weapons (Especially in the ant lion sequence)
- The Antlion, both times I was running hard and truly panicked.
- The need to use objects.

Well, that was fun...but really, it needed alot more motivation, improved level design and needed to be thought out more.
Sure, some parts are fun, but the levels feel bland, stale and repetitive. The Ravenholm areas are very empty and contain far to many courtyard type areas. I always got the impression of Ravenholm being a small, closely knit community of miners. The 'canals', which were more ‘sewers’, needed a heckavolot of work. The textures are out of place, alot of the time its far to square and there is nothing very innovative.

Really, what was I doing there?

As said, the Antlion guard made me work a little harder. I was panicking at points as it pursued me through the ankle deep water and enjoyed every moment of its appearance.

Ravenholm: 6/10

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum. How does one play these modifications? Is there a launcher or something like 'GarrettLoader' in the 'Thief' series to get these mods going?

The above 'Ravenholm' looks interesting. I'd like to play it but how?

Loke provided a link to the download in the threadstarter, so assuming you have a copy of Half-Life 2 and a 'clean' (valid) Steam account you should be able to play this. I haven't downloaded this myself, but I'd assume that either it contains an installer or if its following a more old-skool DIY motif: a readme which will tell you where to put the files. I presume it has an installer, in which case you just need to install it to your 'Source Mods' folder in steam.

All you do is run the installer and put it in your X:\Program Files\Steam\(Your account/email)\Sourcemods

Start up steam and play.

i think the mod was pretty fun exept for a few things. Mainly some unclear directions on where to go espesially in the forest area, although the action within in them was fun, not knowing where the hell you were supposed to go was not. Worst part of the game however had to be the last fight with the chopper. There is no cover and you are being attacked by blackcrabs. I opened up console and it seems that you'd have to hit the chopper a ridiculous amount of times. And once you kill the chopper 6 combine storm through a door and cut you down. Seriously...thats beyond hard. Had to cheat to get through that part.
