See now, I was just playing trough Episode 2 when I noticed something. Sorry if it's been done before.
The advisors are rumored to be babies, right? The younglings of the race? Vortigaunts, who've had alot of encounters with the Combine before and are apperantly hunting down the scattered advisors, call them younglings, and state they are not hatched yet.
Now, you have surely noticed the advisors look like pupas, cacoons. If not, look again.
You should also notice they have a large tongue-like appendage, which many bugs have, specially butterflies who use them to reach down in deep flower petals.
Do you think these advisors were sent here to grow and hatch? Maybe the young are assigned with the assimilation of new, unimportant planets? Is that why they are so desperate to contact with the Combine Overword, to ask for help from their elders? So the grown advisors..
1) They can be bug-like creatures. Valve likes bugs. Most of their monsters that survived trough the beta are bugs, or synthed bugs. Striders, headcrabs, antlions..
2) They maybe something humanoid, it would surely make things much more mystic and the race look more threatening than a bunch of giant flies, if you ask me.
3) The Combine are a bunch of giant ****** butterflies.
Discuss away.

I always thought that they "hatching" was them getting ready to change from Combine atmosphere to Earth's atmosphere.

hmmm....

There is an advisor advising Breen. Once when Gordon teleports into his office and again when he is ready to teleport to the overworld. I doubt that it was a baby.
However, before you encounter the advisor in th barn Alyx says "The vortigaunts said we should kill them before they hatch". Maybe the use of the word hatch isn't exactly how we understand it. Maybe "hatch" just means they have awakened and emerged from their metal carapace.

This is what I was thinking. I think if they make the Advisors just baby giant bug, it would rather cheapen the series. The idea is that over the years for them, they became more and more dependent on technology to survive, so they ended up just giant blobs. :imu:

Yeah, that's what I thought at first too, but the tongue I saw last night was TOO butterfly-ish and the whole "youngling" and "hatching" talk kind of bent my thoughts that way.
I still believe those are at larval stage, but sure, giant lazy blobs will do, too.

The tongue looks like a giant penis. Obviously they are giant men, amirite?

We've had this thread. Not only have we had this thread several times, but we had a thread with that EXACT title (minus the word 'theory'), and we had a thread about larval advisors sometime within the last month. This line:

is DIRECTLY out of that thread! I don't know if this is a case of someone not using the search button or a case of someone copying multiple threads and trying to revive/pass the idea off as their own.

Don't go jumping into conclusions, I even noted this was PROBABLY done before in the first post.
If I wanted to copy a thread I would go make one about Race-X just to piss you off, now.
EDIT: Or Magnusson.

Jumping to a conclusion means that I would have decided on one of those two alternatives, rather than presenting both of them and saying, "I don't know if this is..." Doubt generally means that the person has not reached a conclusion. However after your post I will reason that you were not copying a thread, but instead are a person who posts threads without using the search button and uses "This has probably been done before" as a defense.

Don't trip, harsh as I'm sounding I'm not coming down on you. You'll observe I have yet to make threats on your person involving a chair-related beating. I do wish people would use the search button, though; I remember that larva thread going on for several pages, several pages of discussion. There's really no need to repeat a thread that happened so recently, that was DISCUSSED so recently.

Also, the Magnusson threads don't piss me off--I simply have to state that I'm going to kill him whenever they crop up. Making a Race-X thread, though...well, that's at your peril. I really can't stop you any more than I could stop the shock troopers from...escorting you...

Yeah, I know. I've read enough of you to know about it.
Well, I guess this better get locked and taken away, then.

3) The Combine are a bunch of giant ****** butterflies.

Hmm. Interesting idea. They definitely grow because the 2 you encounter at the end are larger and have arms and the 1st one you rudely awaken doesn't. I don't know why they would need wings though, since they can already fly. I guess it's possible though, they don't really seem to need arms either being that they can hold things telepathically but they get them anyway. I think I remember hearing something in the commentary about the advisors life cycle but it wasn't very detailed. I just can't wait to exact some revenge on those slug bastards.

Raising the Bar suggests that the slug form is the Combine's normal state, not just some larval thing. It makes sense that they're just sacs of organs. When you have telekinetic powers other limbs stop being nessisary. I take the term 'hatch' to just mean emerging from their pods and becoming active. They were already fully grown, but they were harmless because they were not used to interacting physicly with the world. Remember in the Matrix when Neo first emerges in the real word? He can barely move and his eyes don't start working properly for a few minutes. Think of the hatching proccess as like that.

I guess they are like Mothra, watch some Godzilla movies to know what I mean :D

So eventually two fairy women will sing a song to tame the savage Combine?

it's generally accepted that what they mean by younglings is they have not yet awakened to their kickass psychic powers, They explain it in the dev commentary on ep2.

The combine elite has a skull on their logo which looks familiar to the skull of a human.. They are propably like elephant men.

Those are just metallic add-ons actually, I think the first one just didn't have them installed in.

That's just the Combine logo with the empty circle turned into a skull, to be more intimidating to humans.

Yup, everybody knows already that Alyx and Dr. Mossman are the Miko

I'm sorry to spoil Ep. Three to you all, but it ends with those two singing, bringing the whole Combine empire to an end :rolling:, but first they need to awake their powers using the secret altar found in the Borealis.

....
Seriously now,
(reference to Ep. Two ending)
I wonder if those time-slowing-like immobilizing psychic powers work only on organic beings since Dog wasn't affected

If that's true, I'm definitely not buying Episode 3.

p.s. i lied

/me shrugs

For some bizzare reason, the other day, I suddenly had some sort of epiphany in which I realised that you might not be wrong, however much I don't like it.

It was very strange :o
