Realistic water

The problem is that water is a amorphic material, meaning it has curves and it flows. Computer games and what not are based on geometry - straight lines and polygons. We can't even make a graphicly perfect circle (observe anything circular in half life 2, and you'll notice its just a polygon). To create realistic water would involve unbelieveable amounts of polygons. Untill we come up with a way to use curves and parabolic models instead of polygons, we'll have to wait. Not to mention, the physics issue is still a obstacle.


And I dont know any of the computer jargon, so as most of you have realized by now, most of the phrases I used I just made up =P
But I think im close to being right, despite my knowledge of computer graphics is...elementary
