Aloha all!

Man i have had some frustrating moments... but whoo boy not like this. I recently built a computer for my mom, cause her p2 was gettin a little old lolz.

All the parts i used were previously used by myself. All still in working order. Heres the systems specs and whats happening:

Asus P4C800 MOTHERBOARD
ATI 9800PRO
40GIG SAMSUNG HARD-DRIVE
2 GIGS OF KINGSTON RAM
2.8GHZ INTEL WITH HT
52X CD READER/BURNER

I installed everything fine, but when i boot up the screen stays black. After a minute of ideling.. a "pc speaker" like voice is prompted over my speakers.. and jumbles something like .."system error...":frown:

Now the old hard-drive used to have windows 98, but i reformatted it. I have a legit copy of xp and want to install it... but i cant even get the motherboard bios up on the screen! Everything is properly connected or installed... what could be happening here people? lolz

Any suggestions would be immensely helpful..

PEACE

OK.
Make sure everything is connected and powered including RAM seated firm and right.
Make sure RAM and MB are compatible.
PSU has decent power and supplying more efficiently.
Cmos is reset and BIOS updated.
All connection rails are connected to the appropriate connections (CPU rail) MB 24-pin/20-pin are all connected.
If MB has on-board video/audio integrated card; you must use them first before upgrading Video/sound with add-on cards.

Good Luck.

That last one depends on the board, most modern AGP/PCI-E based boards with onboard gfx can detect whether a cards installed or not.

Saying that, the motherboard may not have that feature, so try plugging the monitor into the onboard graphics card and see if that helps.

Like Barney Fife said, make sure everything is connected correctly.

To make things simple for yourslef, unplug your CD/DVD drives from the mobo as well as the HDD. Your PC will still post even if no HDD is present. At this time all we want to see is if your video card is sending a signal to your monitor.

1) Make sure the video card is firmly seated into the AGP slot.
2) Make sure the power cable is connected to the back of the 9800 Pro. (I also have this video card as a backup in an older system)
3) Make sure the 4 prong AGP power connector is plugged into your motherboard as well as the main power cable. See pic below of the connector I am talking about. It *might* look a little different on your end. It comes out the back of your power supply. Not all mobo's require it, so if yours does not have it, it might not need it or it might be attacked to the mail power connector as either a 20 or 24 pin power connector. If it is seperate, it normally plugs into the motherboard itself & can often be found near the CPU. Often called a Secondary ATX Connector.
