So, I will finally be getting a new computer, which means my wife would be getting this one. I'd like to start playing a game with her, but she's not in to gaming yet at ALL. I used to play DAoC for a while, but I'd prefer to stay away from MMORPGs since they'd cost twice as much as usual. I read online that Dungeon Seige 2 is decent. Any suggestions?

Diablo 1\2. lol. You come home and your wifes yelling out "OMG I GOT A BUNCH OF SOJ'S...HOW MANY YOU GOT?? OHH NOT AS MUCH AS ME HAHAHAHAH"

Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 are great rpgs with coop play, little techy net code but meh.

Now I know you said no MMORPGS but check out Guild Wars, its got no online fee, mp, loads of classes, tight game play, and is geared towards MP.

Guild wars can be fun. It's not really a MMO, the only time you're with other players is in big towns. Every other time you're with NPC's doing quests. Though you and a few others (up to 7 others) can join you and help you do quests.
Pretty big game too and the story is cool.

Guild Wars is a COMRPG. Competitve Online Multiplayer Role Playing Game. Thats how ArenaNet, the creators, puts it.

The guy at Areannet I most look up to would be Mike O'Brien. The creator of the MoPaQ format for Blizzard games. Very well known when your making a program that directly involves archiving MPQ's. The other guy would be Patrick Wyatt. He wrote the netcode for Starcraft and Diablo 1\2. And those games can easily be played on a 56k with no lag at all.

Diablo 2 can be great fun with a group of people you know.

Diablo 2 will get boring pretty fast though, I'd say get Guild Wars.

I'd say screw the co-op RPGs, and get Serious Sam : The Second Encounter. :D

Or back to RPGs... Dungeon Siege & Neverwinter Nights ftw.

Guild Wars gets boring after a while also, however its longer than Diablo 2 I'll give it that.

Both excellent choices.

GW is too hardcore for someone who has never played games before..

i <3 playing nwn @ lans, i'd say go for that but nwn might not appeal to her, might need something a tiny bit more 'flashy' or with more action like dungeon seige.

Diablo 2 definitly recommended, me and my RL friends used to play and we loved it.

But there's also Guild Wars (also highly recommended), Dungion Siege 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights

An old favorite of mine, I've probably played this game more than any other game ever - Phantasy Star Online. Girls love this game too.

It doesn't require a super computer, while it has good clean graphics, it's a lot of fun, while it takes plenty of technique to master, it's not too complicated, and you both can play together.
Since its debut on Dreamcast in 2000, the revolutionary PHANTASY STAR ONLINE series has received 17 awards worldwide and now the PSO journey continues on PC ...

There is a monthly fee as it is a MMORPG. Trading items and forming teams of 4 people is tons of fun.

I believe the game is now a free download, but there is a small monthly fee of somewhere around $7-$10 US per month, per account. Unlike most every other MMORPG, it can be played offline (At least you could on the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and Xbox versions)

I think it's free to download here:

REQUIREMENTS:

Windows 98SE / Me / 2000 / XP
[XP recommended]

Pentium III,
700 MHz
[Pentinum 4, 1.4GHz or above recommended]

There is also Phantasy Star Universe, which sounds like it's going to be even better - due out in a few months

The screenshots look pretty clean.

I didn't get bored until i finished the main storyline. And then i only got bored because my friend stopped playing. I might get Guild Wars: Factions. People have been saying thats a good game.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I think I might try out Phantasy Star Online, it looks interesting, plus its cheaper than most other RPGs. I had looked at Guild Wars before, and it didn't really look that appealing to me. Plus, it would cost around $70 to start with 2 accounts since you still have to buy it. Phantasy Star has a 2 week trial, so I'll probably do try that first. Thanks again!

Feel I have to point out Guildwars is a budget release atm...

Played Dungeon Siege 2 coop a few times, it's fun and relatively easy to get into (point-click-die combat, relatively simple levelling/skill system). That isn't to say the game itself is easy, there's a teensy bit of a learning curve and it's pretty challenging at times (keep your finger on that potion button :P)... not sure if there was any way to adjust the difficulty.

Just make sure you build compatible classes. One of you should make a warrior type character who stands up front and takes all the damage, the other a damage dealer - archer/caster type dealie.
