Recording your own "demos"

From info I have gathered, if you bring down the console while playing and type

record "game demo"

you will record a video clip of you playing that is appropriately called "game demo". i did this but was wondering hwo to play the files. they are .dem so i guess you need a certain player. can anyone help me out?

You can only play them from the game console.
