Remember the green Overwatch troops?

Remember the olive-green Overwatch troops that appeared in a few pre-release screenshots of Episode One (then still known as Aftermath)? I remember some speculation as to what they were for. I think the most common theory was that they were outland re-enforcements or some-such.

I think they must have been Valves first try at the shotgun-soldiers with a seperate skin that were introduced in EP2. I just wonder why they would have not used the idea for EP1 and then used it for EP2 instead.

Well, Valve seems to have made very many changes. Like, in Xbox 360 versions, all Vortigaunts have the new cleaner model, they updated the slaves and such. Also new Advisors and such, and Nova Prospekt soldiers all have the shotguns and red eyes.

Maybe they are gonna update PC version too with the achievements and graphics.

Well when you think about it, this is just a way to warn the player about this one specific soldier having a shotgun, since they have proven to be a real pain in the ass at close range.

Newbie-friendly features are infesting the episodes more and more, tbh. We can't expect serious puzzles anymore.

If you can't kill a Combine the second they spot you you're not trying hard enough.

The Olive Greens can be seen on the HL2eathmatch menu screen. I think they didn't make it because they were simply not distinct from the standard soldiers. Valve also don't like to give their enemy units properly effective camouflage.

You mean, they got into effective range?

The effective range of the shotgun in HL2 is much farther than most other games. You don't need to be point blank(like the combine seem to think) to have the majority of the pellets connect.

well there arw a few faded green Elites in Smod
they have a red dot on them thats almost like the RPG guide but it trails behind them
there faster stronger and can jump high
its kinda freaky

Wish they hadn't... looks unconsistent... and it's not like it's that hard anyway. Just makes it more fun. best way to kill them is firing a grenade at them.

Step 1: Roll a grenade
Step 2: Hit 'g'
Step 3: Pick up grenade with Gravity Gun
Step 4: Wait for "click-click"
Step 5: Fire at offending Combine

Means you can shoot at the round corners essentially. Been playing Lost Coast alot recently, and it's a very useful technique.

Annoying, though, when their ammo falls off the cliff

They should've used the skin to create a new npc.
