I thought a few parts, were similar to HL1, which I thought were pretty cool although vague.

When you get off the train, Alyx mentions reaching "the surface" (Kleiner said in HL1 about reaching the surface for help) in which you have to fight to get into the lift, in HL1 you did the same sort of thing, you had to fight the Assasins/Ninja people off, once you got on the lift you reached the ground only to realise there was no real way out unless you went back down again.

Then the generator core at the beginning, it reminded me so much of "Blast Pit" chapter of HL1, where you had to run around to turn on fuel, power and open the doors to kill the big finger things (what were they called?). You did the same trying to put the generators on for the core, by doing small puzzles or taking on enemies to activate each one, all located next to the core orb thing, just like Blast Pit, aswell both needed HEV suit because they were both hazardous.

Anyone else see any similarities?

Also in Half-life, before getting the long jump module, you'll see the kliener model pulling out his shot gun before letting you in; just like in half-life 2;)

You never fight the assasins to make your way up to the surface for the first time, unless you mean grunts

Tentacles

But I do see where you are coming from, I feel the same way, though I think its more subcontious for me. Ep1 was far more enjoyable and replayable than HL2 for me, much the same way I like to replay HL1 from time to time, and I did like the strider battle at the end.

Ahhh, yes Tentacles, boy would I love to see one of those in the next Episodes again. :P They were so much fun, blind but fun to try and "out smart".

I must of got confused with the assasins, I'm sure you had to kill alot of female assasins in a warehouse full of crates, I havn't played HL1 for about 3 years so your probably right.

There was a spot where that happened, but that was right before you were captured by grunts and thrown into the garbage disposal.

EDIT: Crap, wrong forum. Late night tiredness I suppose...

Anyways, after thinking it over, the City Flight chapter's beginning, when you step out of the elevator is heavily reminiscent of me stepping out of the cargo elevator in Office Complex, hwen we see surface for the first time since the resonance cascade... and get immediately attacked by HECU troops.

Or fighting in confined areas... Surface Tension!
