Lexington state Sen. Jake Knotts called political rival and Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley a “raghead” on an Internet political talk show Thursday evening.

The term is a slur typically used against Arabs or other ethnic groups who wear turbans or headdresses. Haley, a state representative from Lexington, is the child of Indian immigrants.

“We already got one raghead in the White House,” Knotts said. “We don’t need another in the Governor’s Mansion.”

his attempt at excusing his behaviour is a joke, especially since he repeats what he said earlier:

“My ‘raghead’ comments about Obama and Haley were intended in jest,” Knotts said in a statement.

“Since my intended humorous context was lost in translation, I apologize. I still believe Ms. Haley is pretending to be someone she is not, much as Obama did, but I apologize to both for an unintended slur.”

lol at "unintended slur" ..regardless of the word "raghead" he's still a bigot who implied obama is a secret muslim

Im not quite sure how such a comment could be "lost in translation"

Republicans are always doing stupid things like this. I feel bad for Republicans I know that are less retarded, but are represented by people who are the basically just scumbags who can't control their own mouths let alone the government. Not that I'm saying every Democrat is the best person in the world... but we sure as hell don't have a Sarah Palin running around... or a Glenn Beck... or a Bill O'Reilly...

Essentially, the popular conservatives of America use a wide range of ad hominem, straw men, red herrings, and sometimes just ouright lies to grasp at political straws... and it seems like it's getting worse each day. I think they just get excited to be famous for the day or two people are pissed at them for offending someone.

in this particular case it's a republican calling another republican a raghead ....also obama, who's not a republican but may be a secret muslim

what a crappy insult

"omfg you are a person that wear clothes in theyr heads!"

You have Al Gore (I created the internet), Bill Clinton (well... you know), and Nancy Pelosi (Barracuda), and John Edwards (cheated on his wife who had breast cancer while running for office).

yeah..., there are insensitive and narrow-minded fools on all sides. I will agree that the republican sleezbags are more obvious about it.

Yes those are some big things that have happened to democrats in the US... but I'm not talking about that. You just covered like 20 years of political faux pas... This is like a daily thing for famous republicans. They just live for saying controversial things that rile people up and accomplish nothing but making stupid people believe untrue things. It's not about scandals or other bullshit... it's the simple fact that they can never seem to shut up when it comes to things like this. I mean something that stands out just because it annoyed me: Sarah Palin saying "Death Panels" a THOUSAND TIMES when no such thing ever existed. Just to drive the phrase into the brains of people who would be dumb enough to believe it.

Same goes for saying Obama is a muslim or a socialist or blah blah whatever... if you say it enough, stupid people will just believe it. I've seen it first hand I know it works... it's just so lame that controversial statements are politically powerful.

the republicans certainly have the market cornered on "anti-gay politician found having sex with male prositute while on meth" ...the democrat scandals are boring in comparison

Kind of off topic, but after stopping into a Denny's after coming from IHOP tonight(wanted a cake from Denny's that they ended up not having... grrr), I was in this stall(also had to go to the bathroom) and saw scratched into the side, "FUKC OBAMA"

I laughed.
