As most of you have no doubt noticed, we were hit with an attempted spam attack by some members of a rival site yesterday.

To our members, we'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused (although it was ultimately very minor) and to thank you all for your restrained and mature behaviour in not retaliating in a similarly childish and immature fashion.

The other site involved has had some disagreements with Halflife2.net in the past, and comments have been made by staff and members of both sites. We have always, however, refrained from indulging in petty and childish attacks and have always discouraged our members from doing so.

To the rival site, we issue the following statement:

Regardless of any disagreement between the sites, we have always discouraged our staff and members from petty, childish and insulting attacks. However, your staff's behaviour yesterday in actively encouraging your members to attack us, in addition to your peurile personal attacks against our site and staff on your "radio show" were utterly reprehensible.

Who look worse, do you think?

Nice response.

After reading all the other "attack" threads, i've been wondering... Have you guys contacted the staff of hlsoruce and hlradio?

Is there really any point? I don't think it would get us anywhere at all.

I'm wondering what they gained from this. But regardless, we wish to thank the community for not responding in kind, and being very restrained.

Cheers guys :)

Hmm yeah, you're right. But it could be worth asking them why they support their members flaming other sites?

As far as I know it was the director of both sites that instigated it by telling people to do it over the radio.

I'd like to add, for the benifit of any of the hlradio people reading this:
You were not meremly banned because you were associated with hlradio. You were banned because you violated the terms of service you agrred to when making your account.

and before someone gets confused,m he means halflifesource and halfliferadio.

not hl2.net

Who is that rival site?
Give me a name.

I feel somewhat responsable for the damage. I posted asking for a shout out, and when I got one it seems live everyone came over and tried to get a shout out too. Sorry guys :(

Nice statement, pihmu.. I agree whole heartedly. that site will certainly look very shoddy if they continue to act in such a childish fashion, and halflife2.net did not, has not, and will not encourage actions such as the ones taken and encouraged by members and VIP's of that site

Spam attack? Oh come on! That is just ultimately sad...just...sad...

It's kinda irritating that you "can't" attack them; mature behaviour is good idea but in the end many really would like to hurt them...bad..:P

Like i said before.

Such retarded and childish attacks arent endearing me to visit their site.

I spent 30 minutes trying to make a mature, friendly and polite thread over there, simply asking them why they did this and why we should fight eachother like this..

The response?

Instant ban and deletion of my thread. In that single moment I lost my last ounce of respect for HLRadio.

Hypocrits.

Well Andy Hodges is about 37... technically he already has.

He's going to play chess with them.

Or perhaps a game of RISK

I'm curious, do you know where the attack came from. Although I possibly know who might of done it, I just want confirmation of the source from this Spam/Terror attack

Its quite simple, they decided to tell all there listeners that they were posting random tosh on this forum, thus everyone in there IRC channel decided to simultaniously make useless spam posts all over there hl2 general discussion section, and the radio proceeded to turn it into a pointless site war.

[sarcasm]Gee, I guess these other sites must be 100 times better than HL2.net since they decided to be immature and spam the forums.[/sarcasm]
I wonder what their next plan of attack on HL2.net will be...

Sorry for the double post but my time limit for editing was up. ;(

I feel responsible for precipitating this whole thing since I was the one who made the thread on their site which certainly made alot of people angry (even though that wasn't what I intended it to do). For what its worth now, I'm sorry for the trouble that has been caused.

Hey, your not responsible at all. Heck I had way more posts in that thread than you did. While I do feel some responsibility, I was always as nice as I could be the entire time and never once insulted any one or any site. Yet all that was returned it seems was mostly flames and this "site war".

i was wondering, would i be banned if i made a flash movie of the epic forum attack (my point of view siding w/ Halflife2.net of course) and posted it, thanx.

I don't know what the mods think, but I think that might not be such a good idea. It would probably just incite further drama and more disputes between the two sites I'm afraid, even if it was funny.

Please leave and never post on these forums again. Thank you.

heh, thanx for that varsity, i wanted to make sure that it wasnt a good idea before i did it, im pretty sure it could cause a problem between the 2 sites and thats not what they need, come on these are 2 sites working for a good cause, HL2!!!!!!!

I suppose your right. Like you said, you never insulted any of them. I guess they were just itching for a flame war and a site war. Too bad they don't seem to realize how stupid and counter-productive it is.

Thanks Neutrino, Pendragon.
