Returning after 1.5 years

I just bought Episode 1 so I could play some Deathmatch after being away from it for 1.5 years. I left to play Battlefield 2 and because server traffic had dropped so much. I can't believe how many people are playing it now.
Theonly problem is I really am sucking at it. When I played before many games I could get to number 1. I just started so I guess I just have to get used to it again.
Someone told me there are a lot of people cheating though...........I hope this isn't true.

I've never met a cheater. CSS has them.

There's some cheaters, but not many. The ones who do are basically FULL OUT RAGING AIMBOT GOGOGO while you have some more clever ones (but very rare) who actually know how to hide it

It's going to take a while to get use to the keys so I guess I'll try and play the whole Episode One. When I had Half-Life2 I never finished the game because I got cable Internet started playing Deathmatch and never went back

I'm in a similar situation where I used to play with a friend from Mexico. The ping is 140ms for him but he got used to it. Anyway, we haven't played together in 6 months but he wants to play with me again.
I'm going to record demos and export them, make x264 encoded AVIs and host them just for fun. I'm not pro but hey it's fun as hell.
I have a HL2DM Pro Dedicated Server running and we play LAN-only games on Hamachi.

Ok yea I'm not so good after not playing in a while but............ Last night after playing BF2 I decided to try a little Deathmatch so I go into this cool looking map I've never seen. There are only a few in there and I shot this other player from behind with pistol a few times they turn kill me with one shot. Ok no big deal I find a shotgun and see same person put three shells center mass nothing they shot me once dead.
I was like the hell with this logged out.

So was this probably just ping or something or maybe they had 200 sheild?

most likely 200 shield.

there are times when you get into an "smg vs smg" battle with someone and in less than 1 second you die for some reason..i personally think it's just a glitch

Hit reg in this game is problematic during times of lag. You will see blood and it looks like you are shooting them, but you are actually missing. SMG killing you too fast is when you lag and from their pov they have unloaded an entire clip into your head, while your connection is just catching up with that information so it looks like you ate a few rounds and it took all your health.

Cheating/aimbots are more and more common, but if you cant tell the difference, best just to assume its the lag rather than call cheats.
