Riiiidge Racer!

Does anyone else find it strange that some random person would create basically an attack ad to support a major corporation? What other industry has this level of ridiculous product loyalty? You don't see people who really like McDonalds go way out of their way to put down Burger King. It's as if people have some sort of personal investment in the success of these companies, like a sports team ... almost like they think these companies give a shit about them.

Are you refering to the Riiiiidge Racer video or some of the other stuff? Because the Riiiiidge Racer video was reasonable and funny, and it didn't support any corporation, it just made fun of the incredible lameness of the Sony conference.

Whoa. I posted this not too long ago.
Well actually it was over a month, probably two.

Well I hate Sony 100x more than any other corporation ever, and I can list the reasons for this, but I'm sure you are familiar with some of them. Also, because they are the direct competitor for the other 2 consoles that I want. So, in effect, they are the enemy.

Not only that, but there is no way in hell I'm adopting Blu Ray ever. I hope it fails or is only mildly successful, because if it would be really successful, then HD-DVD might not be able to co-exist. Every time you buy any Blu-Ray movie, Sony gets part of the money. (Projected billions of dollars every year from BD movie sales going to Sony) Not only that, but Blu-Ray is massively more expensive, so if they were the only successful format, then it forces the consumers to pay way too much for the same thing. HD-DVD movies look and perform exactly the same as Blu-Ray movies, for substantially less money.

I'd rather a neutral player own the next format. For example Toshiba - NOT a prominent console manufacturer like Sony. What do you want them to own the world? Why would you want the number one VIDEO GAME console to be a console that doesn't have VIDEO GAMES first and foremost on their agenda? It's like Video games are taking a back-seat, and are a second thought on a video game console.

Introducing HD-DVD from Toshiba.
- HD-DVD can be easily produced at high volume on standard DVD production lines. (VERY cost effective)

the only part that was slightly correct was the 'reinact battles that actually occured in ancient japan....now here's the part with the giant crabs'

Um ... you hate Sony? They're the "enemy?" Toshiba is a "neutral player?" Ok, whatever, but it's pretty ironic that you complain about them trying to "own the world" seeing as your a huge X-BOX 360 fan (Microsoft).

I don't hate or love any corporation. I use Windows, Sony products, and I have owned a bunch of Nintendo consoles/games. When it comes time to decide, I'm probably going to get a PS3, mainly because of Blu-Ray and a few exclusive games I like. Maybe I'll get a Wii somewhere down the line too. Who knows, if MS pulls something incredibly amazing out if it's ass I might choose to buy a 360 instead, but I doubt it.

I just buy whatever product I think fits me, and since I have a limited budget (and time/interest) I'll probably only buy one. But I just don't understand this crazy sense of loyalty ... just buy what you want. So many people think it's their job to campaign for these major corporations. I think it's odd that the only places you seem to see this kind of fiercely irrational brand loyalty is in games and sports.

They don't want to go and meet people, so they just suck off of major gaming corporations.

I don't care if people hate a console or not, but when you start preaching your favorite console to the masses, you need to go outside and get laid or sommat.

Yes. I hate Sony. You don't understand why I say "they are the enemy"? I thought I put it pretty plainly when I said they are a direct competitor for the other 2 consoles that I want, I should also mention that they are a direct competitor for the Movie player format that I want. Whichever company gets the most support gets the most games and movies to choose from. So if I buy a Wii, and Wii doesn't sell well (because everyone bought a PS3 instead) then I don't have very many games to choose from for my system. If I buy an HD-DVD player and HD-DVD doesn't sell well (because everyone bought a Blu-Ray instead) then I won't have as many movies to choose from.

Toshiba is a "neutral player?"
You would say that they are not? I wasn't aware that Toshiba was releasing a video game console.

But I just don't understand this crazy sense of loyalty ... just buy what you want. So many people think it's their job to campaign for these major corporations. I think it's odd that the only places you seem to see this kind of fiercely irrational brand loyalty is in games and sports
Funny that you say that, seeing as you are the biggest, fiercest loyal PS3 fan on this forum. And hey, if you like Sony then fine, but don't try to insult people for being fiercely loyal to Nintendo or Microsoft when you do the same thing for Sony, like you hold stock in the company. It's not even that I am loyal to Nintendo or Microsoft, it's just simply that I do not like Sony.

I've already stated that if the Blu-Ray format is too successful, then HD-DVD might die off and the HD-DVD player that I plan to buy won't have very many movies to choose from.

So basically, Sony is releasing a console that is a direct competitor for my favorite game system (the Xbox 360) AND my favorite (since it is 100% cheaper) movie format (HD-DVD).

Because I think their products are shit and over-priced, and don't like their business practices and the way they run things (LYING TO CONSUMERS COMPULSIVELY and 'DISC READ ERROR'), there is no way I will ever buy a Sony product, and their success means bad news for the things I will be buying. Explain to me why I should wish them well?

Don't you think that's taking it a little too far? Nvidia and Intel are the direct competitors for the parts I use in my PC, but they are not my enemy, in fact I am grateful for their existance because A. The push ATI and AMD to make better products and B. If ATI or AMD blow it one generation I always use Nvidia or Intel parts. It's the same way with consoles, for example the existance of Xbox Live forced Sony to provide better online service this time instead of their sucky old one. They have to compete. Sony has some pretty low business practices, but don't think that Microsoft doesn't. Hate the corporate crap, embrace the products.

Well, I'm just stating how I feel, it's not like I'm campaigning and creating blogs and websites and Sony bashing movies myself, but I've said several times on this forum before, I do not wish Sony would go bankrupt, or die, or be a total failure, because competition is good for consumers. Competition equals better products and better prices. I just don't want them to 'win' the competition. If you don't know what I mean by 'win', go into a game store and look at the Gamecube games - all 10 of them, then look at the wall full of PS2 games.

But there is also a wall full of Xbox games. There is room for two, maybe even three, it's just that Nintendo didn't do very well last time, for whatever reason.

I generally agree with smwScott, but feel that in this case bashing Sony is fair game.

Apparently there was laughing from the audience during their e3 presentation. One jouranlist wrote that he'd never seen anything like it in all his years in the industry - developers and the gaming press chuckling away like kids.

Yeah, the Sony press conference was one of the bigger letdowns for me this year. I know the Tokyo Game Show will be killer this Fall though, so hopefully they can make up for the craptastically long and boring GT demo and the the Giant Crab lunacy and the disappointing showing altogether. Riiiiidge Racer--big freaking deal...:|

I have to admit I haven't seen the full conference, the only one I watched part of was the Wii, just cause it was kind of interesting. I assumed the video was just taking random things out of context, maybe it wasn't, I dunno. The Riiiiidge Racer comment and the thing about the amazing new real-time weapon switching was pretty amusing ... oh, and the giant war crab in the game that depicted "real battles from Japanese history."

And Virus, I don't want to argue with you again. Despite what you think I have nothing against the 360, I just don't have any plans to buy one. I wish I could play Perfect Dark Zero and Mass Effect, but I'll have to live without them for awhile. I don't really have brand loyalty ... at least not to the consoles themselves. Actually, if the MGS4 and ICO teams suddenly switched to 360 I'd buy one when the price drops. When it comes to MS/Sony/Nintendo I'm pretty much indifferent, I just care about the features and games.

And when it comes to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, why don't you just wait? You don't have to rush out and buy one or the other and hope it wins ... just wait and see, then you can't lose.

It's called a market economy. Duh! you'd be screwed without competition. The last part of that really showed your fanboy side off. ZOMG my favourite console might lose teh battle, big deal have a cry! /edit Sorry but I see quite an awful lot of this.

So you don't like PS2 games, I feel sorry for you there a lot your missing out on. As for Nintendo they've been the lower ranked competitor since the Gamecube and as far as the Wii goes it does have a better chance but the PS3 and Xbox 360 have larger fanbases too.

Oh piss off Kyo, all 1,880 of your posts have included insults to people in the thread recklessly. It's like a 24-7 rag you're on. Should I dig up your posts? Such a brat.

I already said, "it's not that I even like Xbox or Nintendo, it's just I don't like Sony and would never buy one. As if I cared what you think of me, answer me this. :dork: How can I be a fanboy because I am an anti-fan of Sony? Dumb ass.

If you didn't care why post on an internet forum? In regards to the fanboy statement you've said you'd prefer the X360 to win and would prefer HD-DVD to win.

If you'd like to insult me in any manner you can email me.

I said "As if I care what you think of me", and I gave my reason - you insult at least one person in every post I have ever seen from you (except in your mod threads), and I have nearly said something a few times, but I'm saying it now, and I'm done.

I could ask you the same question - Why post in an internet forum, if you don't seem to like anybody? Thats all. We can be mean too. Treat people how you want to be treated.

I have an excuse though - I'm bi-polar. Shit, plus my Grandfather died in the middle of the night, last night, and I'm not exactly filled with cheer about it. If you had something to discuss using email, instead you can just PM me.

And somehow, this thread still makes me laugh. [EDIT: NOT THAT LAST PART YOU SAID, VIRUS. I'm really sorry to hear that...]

No you don't. If you ever enjoyed Perfect Dark in the slightest, do yourself a favor and never, ever set your eyes on Zero, because once you play it, you realize the Perfect Dark narrative is dead in the water.

mmmm, more controversy before the console even comes out.
Sad how people jump to such conclusions.

Look I'm sorry if I offended you. Sometimes I say such things merley on the base I've heard the argument thousands of times before and get tired of hearing it. Next time I'll say nothing and leave it at that then.
