Route Canal

I'm a HL2 noob.
Cause of i played UT for the whole time.
I have to say it rocks, but i'm stuck.
Maybe at a noob place, but hey life also needs noobs, otherwise u elite wouldn't have questions to answer

Im stuck in route canal.
I come to a place where i after killing 4 guards who drop down i go to a place where there is water and a big waterruther.
Can't open the gates and can't destroy them with grenades and stuff.
How do i continue??

Found it myself.
Really have to learn to look around more

Here's a really good walkthrough with pictures. I used it when I got stuck myself and it made my first run through the game much more enjoyable -- I didn't have to spend hours trying to figure out which way to go to get out, etc.

thanks managed to get through and now duelliong with a hunter helicopter that drops mines, cheers
