Goto this site below to watch the latest DX9 video from Stalker:

Stalker DX9 trailer ---(640x480)[WMV] [5:25] (42.7mb)---

(NOTE: this video is a tad bit framey due to the amount of compression in the video, it is not that noticable, and it is not ingame framerate that makes it a little bit framey, and this is NOT the final version of STALKER as it has not yet been completed yet, STALKER is near completion, and will most likely have some little things fixed such as sounds on weapons, and soem animation)

Enjoy, i hope to see you all in the forums soon :)

And if you do join the forums my alias is Natace

Sorry mate, the release date is 2006 according to THQ.

I'll admit I'm very skeptic about this game, sounds too ambitous but I really hope it doesn't suck. If they can find a way to pull off what thier planning to do then this will be one of the greatest games of our time.

From what 've seen\read this game stands an equal chance of being absoluty mind blowing or complete and utter crap.....I will definatly wait for a demo or one of my friends to buy it before I do :borg:

P.S. I really, really, really hope it doesn't suck

I think Half-Life 2 fans would already know about S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

you work for gsc? but yeah it looks awesome, if they pull it off like beam said it'll be a landmark title, i dont see too much innovation around at the moment either so i hope it works out.

I agree. STALKER looks less impressive with every postponement. They shouldn't have waited so long with the release.

My thoughts exactly.

Stalker is definitaly high up on my list of games to watch.

.bog.

Haha, how much money did you get for this? ;)

Anyway, I'm looking forward alot to STALKER, the games from the east seem to be the most revolutionary and innovative ones. (OFP, anyone?)

I have to correct my former statement:

I just downloaded this vid on Bittorent and it's absolutely amazing. The graphics have improved tenfold due to the DX9 effects. The levels are simply amazing. The weather effects are pretty impressive too. And the last scene is scary is hell. I'm a fanboy again.

yes exactly the vid rockzored my boxerz, a list of cool things:

-rain particles don't just fall through every object, they actually hit every surface they run into and create a small splash.

-Multiple shadows depending on how many light sources there are

-When the bag thing fell off the barrel the stalker appeared to hop over it instead of unrealistically run straight through it or get stuck on it.

-I didnt know why there were puffs of smoke appearing on the ceiling at first until i realised that it was bullets bouncing off the metallic surfaces and into the ceiling.

-When a gun is shot it shows some sparks instead of just an explosion on the end of the gun, it looks alot more realistic.

-When there was just the one guy left, he was sprinting away trying to get out of the place but was surrounded, i found it very realistic that he was going from one place to the next lookign for an exit

After they have killed the threat that they know about, they all regroup and report in...(i wanna know what they are talkin about though)

-Yes this effect is in many games but i am glad that fire does create heat distortion, it looks very nice.

-shadows from trees and objects are realistically shown when lighting strikes, they arent static shadows that are constantly showing, which is cool.

-enemies leave blood trails when shot.

-sound effects in different environments sound cool, such as the guy who gets shot outside and runs inside, and then shouts out some jibberish, with a reverbing sound effect.

-when a player climbs stairs he actually does climb them, he doesnt fly up them at the same speed he would go running on a flat surface.

I was not impressed with Stalker in the beginning. Then, I was. Now, I'm not.

That pretty much describes my experience with it. The new video makes the whole game look boring. I can't take slow-motion jumping kangaroo-bat-rats seriously. The firefights looked like some B-movie action flick. Seriously, how bad can your aim be.

Bah, that's my opinion. Don't argue with me. Arguing never works.

Full Physics, Bullet Ricoches (spell?), you won't be a sad panda when you can take full advantage of the physics with the PhysX Card coming out this christmas

I'm guessing this will be a PCI based card, right? Or will it be like a USB-plugin?

Looks good though I'm not sure if it will compare graphically with Unreal3 engine games. The gameplay also looks a bit dry to me, especially in comparison to what I've been hearing about Hellgate: London; random maps, huge variety of settings, story driven with random missions and NPC's, infinite amount of items and quests, coop focus on multiplayer, etc.

Why is it accepteble for companies to spam forums with their products while pretending to be regular people or fans of the game?

Seriously, I want an answer!

It's blatently obvious with your single post count and the fact that you only signed up today that your only interest is in publicising this game.

I have had a long held interest in this game but it's crass comercialism and outright dishonesty that puts me off. Do you think we're stupid, that we don't realise this is merely a glorified advert?.

Go away and don't come back!

no hes just a fanboy, hes over @ the stalker forums i lurk in.

Well he's taking fanboy-ism to the nth degree then.

Natace:

Opinions and screenshots are much preferable to a page full of links and a disclaimer stating that you are not being paid for your efforts. The fact that this looks more like a memo that a post is really off putting too.

That said, I shall remain sceptical.

As far as I know S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs homemade physics engine does not take advantage of PPUs.:)(If that was what you meant that is.)
And notice the fact that they've made their own, it's not Havok or any other "licens"-based physics engine.
From what I've seen and heard the physics are great tho.

Once it's released, then i'll care.

[radio static]

STALKER: Quiet!.. A lot of strange shit's brewing here.

[change of scene]

Man #1: Damn... [cant tell what hes saying, something about how much this, whatever this is, stinks].
Man #2: Yea... if only someone'd show up. [coughs]
Man #3: [yawns]
Man #2: [commanding voice] No sleeping!
Man #1: Ya hear, they got Gray (nickname for another STALKER)
Man #2: Yea... thats fate. I knew that he'd get clipped eventually. There on Vitovsky Pan (umm some place Im assuming) tried to break thru a post. All died.
[heres where the annoying bg music makes it almost impossible to hear what they're saying]
[near the fire]
Man #?: This weather sucks..
Man #?: [something about the weather]

[gun fight starts]

Man #2: Fight!

[a bunch of people cussing their hearts out, followed by a quiet]

OpForce #1: [radio static] Im Zone 7, returning to base, situation normal, opponent neutralized.
Dispatch: [radio static, indistinguishable]
OpForce #1: Copy that.
OpForce #2: Yea the weather... pure shit.
[scenes with the player about to kick some OpForce butt]
OpForce #3: God I hate rain.
[second gun fight starts]
OpForce #2: Fight!
OpForce #1: [the one hiding near a wall] Eat steel you bitch.
OpForce #?: Go around him!
[the player throws the granade]
OpForce #?: 'Nade!
[cussing by random ppl lol]
[intermission where the player pickes up some artifact]
OpForce #?: Where are you hiding, you ****er?!
OpForce #?: There he followed us!
[a bunch of indistinguishable phrases by dying OpForce guys]
