Hi guys

Ive completed HL2 and i just finished playing Lost Coast. So i now want to uninstall HL2 (Might aswell because EP1 doesnt require it) .
But i want to know will i still be able to use my account if i dont play HL2 again for a while.

Because i read somewhere that someone tried playing it again 4 months later and their account was banned

Thanks

Ruud

This is bollocks you can play anytime...years later if you like.

I'm pretty sure this is bollocks too. Episode 1 will surely run on the same engine and models in HL2, with some improvements and additions of course...so it would need the original game i'm pretty sure. So you can uninstall HL2...but no Episode 1.

Episode 1 was said to not require purchase of HL2 a month or so ago. It's standalone, not an expansion. Nevertheless, it will include a fair ammount of content that HL2 now includes. Presumeably, Steam will use HL2 legacy materials if needed, but if they're not present, they can downloaded over Steam anyway. Keeping HL2 on your HDD in anticipation of Episode 1 presumably just reduces the ammount you have to download by a reasonable margin.

You could but... don't come crying back here if HL2 murders your pets and burns your house to the ground! YOU CAN'T LEAVE; SHE WON'T LET YOU!!!

Otherwise, tis totally safe. I've redownloaded the game 2 maybe 3 or 4 times with no problems except the burning resentment Half-Life 2 gives me for cheating on it with other programmes.

Thats a pretty nifty idea for Episode 1, i haven't stayed up to date with it, because i'm not actually interested in it at all. Without using HL2 as a base to work on its going to be huge, dear me.

So do you guys recommend that i uninstall the game , As i said before EP1 doesnt need it to run the game.

Like kupoartist said if any files are needed stream will have an option to download them anyway (Thats if any files are needed)

i suppose if HD space is a problem, then yeah uninstall it.
if you will end up installing Half Life2 2 months down the road, whats the point of uninstalling it now? :P

There will be no problems with reclaiming your right to HL2. Cases where people have lost the ability to play are exceedingly rare and often down to that person's piracy of the product or simple lack of intelligence when it comes to accounts (some people log into the wrong account for instance).

If you're sure that you won't be wanting to play it again soon, uninstall it by all means and claim yourself some HDD space. Remember though that it'll take a while to redownload it all, even if you begin the installation from a retail or backup disc.

BTW, if you plan on keeping HL2:DM and CS:Source, you may find that uninstalling HL2 only gets you back a little under a gig of free-space: this is because HL2:LC, HL2:DM and CS:Source share certain files that were originally created for HL2, just as Episode 1 will.

You can download the entire game over steam, but even if you install from a disc, you have to download a year's worth of updates too, which aren't that small in size.
