Slums 2 Released Play and Post

beat it few minutes ago, let's see

pros:
. the level design. it's visually appealing. some parts were really cool
. nice visuals
. the antlion guard fight

cons:
. the gameplay is plain simple, and dull: shoot and kill your enemies, find a way to open the locked doors.
. the level design is boring, repeative, and dark with small, narrow rooms. plus, small design errors.
. terrible enemy, ammo/health placement
. is too difficult (got my butt kicked like 10-15 times)
. there's music from the commercial games like Vampire: Bloodlines, which is illegal to use
. didn't like the beginning/ending - there's no story

conclusion: 3/10 (or 5/10)

I think you mixed up pros with cons there barnz :p

Haven't checked this out yet, will anyway despite the bad review cuz there aren't enough SP mods in the world. Never heard of Slums, was the first one on GoldSRC or source?

Thanks for the correction. :P

Edit: never heard of the original. I think Slums 2 is a remake (or updated version) of the first one. It feels like a mod for HL1 on some parts

Edit: found the original on city17***

http://www.city17***/hl2/slums/

so yes, this is an updated version of Slums 1

Barnz needs to suck less at FPSes.

i don't suck at FPSes, this game is just terribly designed - why don't you try to beat it in "normal" (or hard) mode, so we can see your amazing FPS skills ;)

So where's the mod part? Just looks like a map pack to me.

Don't feel like downloading anything right now.

People often forget that maps, map packs, custom skins etc are also called mods. You may think of total or partial conversions but any editing is considered a mod by definition.

Also I would say for a singleplayer game, map packs can be considered mods by your conception of the term - we consider Das Roboss, Research and Development, Minerva etc all mods, although they are really glorified map packs with a little bit of custom content. For multiplayer games, custom content in a new map does not make it a "mod" (again, by the definition you use), just a map - nobody calls a custom map a mod in TF2 or CS. For a singleplayer game though if they have a storyline that is independent of or at least clearly delineated from the game's plot, 'tis a mod.
