Hi gang,

I had done some models and animations in Max 7 for Half Life 2 about a year ago and I had everything working fine in the HLMV. Life got busy and I shelfed it for a while but I'm trying to get back into it.

The problem I'm having now is that i can't seem to compile any of my SMDs any more. I'd read on a message board a while back that some Source update broke Cannonfodder's SMD exporter and if that's true, all of the info I have on getting max content into source is suddenly outdated. Looking around here though, it seems people are still working with Max just fine. Is there another SMD exporter I should be using? Could anyone give me or steer me towards some current information on getting Max assets into Hl2?

I tried searching the forums before posting but unfortunately 3 letter words like SMD, 3d and max are considered too short to search for.

Cheers.

Cannonfodder's SMD exporter still works just fine - you don't need another.

Okay thanks. Knowing that helps a lot to figure out just what I'm doing wrong.

I actually had the same problem about a month ago, then i switched to maya and compiled from there. But !... a friend of mine does still has this problem.

I did get it working from Max actually. I think there might have been some problems with my .qc file and my exports might have been from an older version of the plugin. I re-exported a newer version of my model which works fine, minus textures (which I made a new thread for as I don't think it's because of the exporter).

also CannonFodder's compiler dosnt work anymore unless u open up GameInfo.txt, in "...sourcesdk > launcher" folder. and comment out (put a "//" before) the line
"SteamAppId 220"
so make it
"//SteamAppId 220"

and do the same to the line that says:
"ToolsAppId 211"
in the GameInfo.txt or the particular mod u are compiling the model for.

Cool, good to know. I'd tried the StudioCompiler from Cannonfodder and it failed but when I was troubleshooting this, I used a .bat script to compile, just to make sure it wasn't the compiler itself.

It seems like a good tool but seeing how different updates seem to break tools, I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible.
