So, I went thru configs & took out the CS:S maps & I'm basically playing HL2 from the beginning with the added features of the SMOD creator. Anyone else out there doing this? It's like a whole nuther version of HL2.

I refuse to use cheats but am getting really tempted to use Godmode atm. I'm in Entanglement where I leave Alyx in the control room where we find out about Mossman talk'n with Breen. After a couple fights with combines etc. I take some stairs down & enter a room with goodies & headcrabs & open a door that reveals a hallway with a shitload of proximity mines. It's friggen impossible to jump/crouch my way through these. I just quit after bout 15 failed attempts & decided to ask the experts here.

Anyone know what I'm talk'n bout? Any tips.....not cheats?

It would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't know SMOD was supposed to be used with regular HL2...

You could drop a 'nade into the area they're in and scurry back around the corner, wait for everything to blow up, leaving your path clear.

...Ye gods, just punt the vent cover onto one of the laser beams. Watch everything explode. Rinse and repeat everytime you play that section.

Thanks guys, but that reminds me of what else I tried. (I was a tad drunk last night & forgot to mention this) I threw everything I could find into the mines & nothing made them go off. So, I thought ok, it needs to be biological. So, I tantalized the headcrabs & managed to get one of them in the hall & they just walked through the beams with no effect.

Next I harassed the combines to follow me & try to get them to walk through the beams & I only got them to the bottom of the stairs a couple times & I failed the mission due to "You let Alyx die" I guess other combines went back to her in the control room & killed her.

I just now went back in & threw in some 'nades with no effect. I've ran out of options. Has anyone actually played this part & made it through? I threw in a screenshot to show how many beams there are.

That place looks SMOD exclusive. Shoot one of the things from around the corner.

No why? I thought it was entirely for their noded maps.

the Nodes were a later feature, like i think 10-20 versions down the road. It was meant to be a mod for Hl2 with crazy guns.

I think I know the part you're talking about, try obstructing the laser beams with objects.

I know this part, it only triggers the explosion when the player touches it.

It's possible. What you need to do is hold crouch while jumping over the first two lasers, and then run a crouch-jump between the last two in one big jump.

I might be wrong since it's been a while since I played SMOD but that's what I vaguely remember doing.

I'm walking around with my head down. I'm soooo low.;( I finally used cheats. I used soybeans to increase my life & jumped/crouched as far as I could & then ran through the rest. I survived the explosion due to high health.

I only found this out when I challenged my kid to try & go through there. He started playing around with weapons options & showed me the soybeans & how they could catch the headcrabs on fire. He then tried to go through the mines & survived it.

So, I re-loaded the map & did it myself. I wish I would have seen your post first "bigexplosions" coz I would have kept on trying if I knew it was possible.

I couldn't get most of the weapons in that game to work right. That is, I would impulse 101 and stuff, or use the individual weapon commands but I couldn't get things such as the wand to work.
