Half Life.... one of the greatest fps in game´s history.
After released it was awarded with more than 20 Goty (Game O´the Year) awards. Seeing that fact and realizing how this game sold Valve decided to make another Half-Life ,a sequel.

More than five years working hard to please the fans, working in the dark to make the most impressive game ever seen.

Perhaps this effort made them forgot about their security but that´s no reason to steal 1/3 of the source code and the Beta version of the game that everyone was desperate to play.

The delay of the game doesn´t justify hacking the company, Valve has no obligations with a release date , they only have the obligation to deliver a amazing games with no BUGS if possible.

History has tought us that games with fixed release date are always a major CRAP, an example would be Tomb Raider: "crap" of darkness.

PS: EDITED

and serveral moderators said not to post crap like this. check the stickys.

I agree except one part, a fixed release date is does not make a game bad, I do not think Max Payne 2 will be a bad game.
But you are perfectly right, flaming the developer who is making one of the greatest and most innovative games of all times is just not right, nor is it hacking their network. Also trying to put them under pressure is not a very smart thing, but you know, there are so many out there that just do not realize that, I am glad that there are still reasonable people.
And I do not agree with your last statement, isn't really an argument to send them to hell.

If anyone doesn´t agree with my post , go ahead and flame me ,I don´t care . Just remmember ,by using stolen or illegal products ,you´re taking away the money of the people who made the product , you´re taking away their salary.

Do you even know what's been stolen? I think you should read a few other threads, and you'd realize that with this pre alpha they won't lose any money. No story, no textures, many great features missing. The ones who will download it will do that anyway when it comes out, and yeah that's bad, but what are you going to do about. I will buy the super expensive collectors edition, just to have the smell of it when I take it out of the box and to put it on my shelf, but not everybody does think that way.

Yes, everytime you download the beta 5 dollars are removed from Valve's funds.

It's not the fixed release date that makes the games bad... it's that the predictions of when the game will be done are always too optimistic.

At the beginning of August the developer is like "At this pace we'll easily finish in two months." so they tell the publisher "Yeah, we'll have it ready to ship at the end of September."
Then, the "curse of the fixed release date" sets in and they start stumbling on some problems and slowing down.

Sometimes, in this situation, the publisher might even force the developer to release a buggy version and patch it later just to hit the release date... and the bugs may turn away customers.

It's a no win situation.

When making estimates of when you'll be finished... always tack on quite a bit of buffer time between when you think it will be done and when you say it will be done.
Never set a release date in stone if "it will be close."

Remember, if you finish early you can suprise everyone and release ahead of schedule... but if you fall behind and delay the game you will catch a lot of flak from the media and the community.
... and unless you have a great product you can't afford to risk that.
