ok, does gordon have the ONLY gravity gun, or did they make more than 1? considering how useful it is, i'd think they'd make more than 1. When alyx says they use it to just pick up large objects and stuff, don't you think they would've realized how much more you can do with it when they went into an abandoned hardware store?

They are a rag tag human resistance force. They haven't the resources or ability to mass produce them. And it's not something they want falling into Combine hands either.

Yeah, Breen didn't even know what the hell it when he took it from you when he had you in his office in the Citadel. He just sets it on his desk like it was nothing. Of course, I assume he thinks it's some sort of weapon because he points it at you and presses the button. The shiny, candy-like button... Er, I think the Rebels have kept the gravity gun pretty close under wraps so the Combine don't get their hands on it, like Samon said.

Yeah but its a fairly safe weapon...its not like a Combine Soldier can just rip it off him anyway :P
Since they are so rare, they would only be given to the inderviduals that are ganuarteed not to lose it - Freeman and Alyx (Through Dog)

Exactly. Breen dismissed it because it was so cobbled together. He's used to pristine-fancy Combine weaponry, not some funny looking blue thing. He had no idea.

Well, i dont realy think the rebels realy thought the gravity gun was a big deal, i was as alyx said, something to help them lift heavy stuff.
When Breen dismissed it was charged, and i bet Eli had no idea it could do that.

Dog has one?? In that case I'm more excited about apisode one now!

You never noticed that he plays catch with you without ever touching any of the stuff he throws at you? That there's a blast of orange lightning between his hand and the crates when he throws them at you?

While they weren't mass-produced there may be a couple more somewhere around the place.

Right, they aren't exactly very agile, it takes Alyx a good deal of work to lift it, and Breen struggles with it as well. It isn't meant as a combat weapon.

What I don't understand is why the first thing they do when Gordon arrives is teach him to use the gravity gun when, as Alyx states, they only use it for moving crates and heavy lifting. Is this really the best job they can find for an MIT graduate?

Maybe its that he did such a great job as a cart pusher, they were giving him a promotion, of sorts.

Well no, they had him push a button in Kleiner's lab.

It was becouse Eli did't want Alyx and Mossman fighting, so he sent Alyx of with Gordon. The gravity gun is kwl and I bet Eli knew that Gordon whould be impressed by it.

Note that the gravity gun sits just below the crowbar on your weapons list.

Its not meant to be a weapon per se, it was meant as the thing you grab
as a last resort after you've run out of bullets in your real weapons.
Otherwise its kind of a crowbar on steriods for its usefulness.

The rebels never thought of it as a weapon because they needed things you
can use against striders and gunships, not something to toss garbage cans
with. It also takes a bit more practice to use full time, when most of
the rebels have trouble aiming a shotgun.

Also, from the looks of it, the Gravity Gun is built around one of the Xen
crystals that was recovered from Black Mesa, they probably have a very limited
supply of those, and most would be used in teleportation experiments.

Plus, making it a semi-unique devices makes what happens in on the final levels
that much cooler. (That may also help to explain what happened to it in the Citadel)

The first thing they did when Gordon arrived was to try and get him to relax after
what he had to go thru to get to BM East. They were hoping that they would be safe
for at least long enough to get him familirized with the resistance plans before
putting him back into the fight (or were hoping to get him up to speed on technical
developments before asking him to return to teloportation research.
