I've had to reinstall my OS, Steam and HL2 and the sound stutter is back - I THINK I've got the latest HL2 and def the latest nVidia SoundStorm and Radeon-Omega drivers and applied the more common autoexec.cfg changes (to smooth sound/video) again.... so some of the stuttering is gone, but it's still there when I go to the menu's to save, etc.... what were the other changes that needed to be done?

Pretty sure there was a thread in this a month back, but can't find it now.

hmmmm I'll check - it was whatever Steam spent a good few mins downloading when it first loaded..... it is set to "fetch latest updates" in Steam.... how do I check version numbers / force it to update again?

I guess since I re-installed to the same directory (2nd partition on the Raptor), it may THINK It has the latest install, but actually doesn't.

Delete the clientregistry.blob in the Steam folder? That might work....

cool - just checking that I wasn;t gonna lose al my steam account details or anything like that too!

okay - after all of that and then forgetting my Steam password (doh!).... the problem is still there!

This is not quite the same as the voice-stuttering on the original HL2.... it is more like a looping of the last 1 second of audio when you try to access any load / save menus.... it loops for about 10 seconds and then lets you in...

i get some stuttering too - 'ggood morning mrr freeman'
at first i thought it was deliberate but it happens other times during that too...

that sounds like the original "texture thrashing" bugs that I put a whole bunch of things into the autoexec.cfg to smooth out and set the initial heapsize to 512mb.... this is v dif.

and when this looping occurs, the cpu usage drops to next to nothing....

It is literally 10 seconds of looping - I'm writing most of these posts on my laptop while this happens!

This is really bugging me since I'm somebody who likes to / needs to save and reload a LOT!

U Boksha?

Anyway, no idea whats causing the problem. Could be a dodgy soundcard, but I don't really know...

EDIT: You know you can just hit F6 and F9 to quicksave/quickload right?
