Source based MMORPG says "bye bye"

So that's one flop and one did-not-finish for the Source engine. It's a shame because I'm sure it has the power to creat great games.

Hmm, I hadn't even heard of this before now. Shame to see a mod die though :/

You guys realize it wasn't a mod but a full retail game right? :P

It was a pay-per-month FPS.

Sad to see them go.

From their forums:
Definitely send e-mails to major game magazines/sites. Get as many people aware of this as possible. We tried to keep the hype low and the game low-key until it was close to release, and we might have shot ourselves in the foot doing so. We need publicity, and we need it now.
He's right, I hadn't even heard of this game until now. The look of the website rings a small bell though...

they were aiming for a hybrid between fps and mmorpg so in that sense it sounds quite intriguing but its too bad they can't carry on :(
hmm...i wonder if Valve would be interested in such a concept.

This was the 'XORG' or something, right?

Yes the XORG, Xtreme online roleplay gaming

Or somrthing along those lines.

I don't think they realized the extreme risk they put themselves into trying to delve into the ultra-competitive mmo market. I didn't think they'd have that easy.

As for them trying to appeal to Valve, I don't think it will work. An mmo is simply not in Valve's scope. It might give it a push and nudge, but certainly won't carry it for the long haul.

Yeah, it doesn't look too pretty. Probably the reason their investors pulled out, if you're building something on the Source engine you'd expect some semblance of up-to-date graphics.

This game was pushing the Source engine to its limits, it would have been competition for the Unreal3 engine and other upcoming games in 2007 onwards.
Wow. Unlikely is an understatement.
I don't think it would be worth the bother to put the code of a large scale, unfinished MMORPG into the hands of amateurs.

No.
A bit of mod developers bashing.
Keep the ideas flowing everyone, but please don't keep posting publisher and developer names. They won't help us, and many of those listed are responcible for some true horrors of the development world.
My desire to sympathize with them is just dampening by their "holier than thou" stance.
