Source Engine?

Where can i obtain the Hl2/Source engine in which i can change models ect and pretty much make it into my own game.
I've searched google and have not found anything. Is it available to download for free or must it be purchased. If known, may someone please give me a link or explain otherwise.

Garry got it.
Valve traded it for 50% of the income from Garry's Mod. So no, you can't download it for free anywhere. It's going to cost you a lot.

EDIT: But you can mod HL2 into whatever you want basically.

If you know C++ you can mod HL2. You can basically change it into whatever you want. You can change basically any aspect about the game. It's recommended you have a very solid knowlege of C++, Modeling Programs(if your modeling), and Hammer (for maps). Then use VERC to get started.
