does anyone use the new hammer that came with source sdk to make HL1 maps? is it right to do that or do we have to use old hammer to make HL1 maps? im setting the configs for HL1 now.

oh ok so i gotta use the hammer 3.4/3.5 right? no problem with that i was just curious if i could use the same prog for all kinds of maps.

considering source is a difference engine (Source Software Development Kit)...no

You would think, though, that Hammer 4 would at least be minimally backward-compatible with prior engines, especially given that some of its options supposedly allow it to load WADs and create Goldsource-style BSPs.

But, no. Hammer 4 doesn't really support the WAD format, it doesn't support a CSG program at all, and it will only save maps as VMFs, which cannot truly be devolved into MAPs.

3.4 and 3.5 (which, incidentally, never got past beta stage) are your only options.

get radiant 1.5 - it edits almost everything, incl. all the quake games, HL1, RTCW, ET, Doom3, jedi knight franchise...

ah ok i figured since it was source sdk it wouldnt work...but when i saw the option to use WADs and stuff and it made me wonder. i was able to get the configs down for almost everything....but like you said the entry for CSG was missing. ultimately....it wouldnt allow me to launch hammer with those configs. ah well....thanks anyways guys.
