Special Edition Blah Blah

I was looking at the games on Steam and I saw the Half-Life 2 Gold package with all that stuff that comes with it: the posters, the soundtrack, the hat, the sticker, the postcard, etc.

What's the deal with all the special editions of things? I hate them! It makes it a pain in the ass for the people who got the item when it came out. If I want to get all that cool extra stuff, I'm going to have to track it down somewhere and buy it all which would cost a ton of money, time, and energy; which sucks.

And I'm not just talking about Half-Life. I hate all those stupid special edition or 'unrated' DVDs and stuff that have different covers and clever phrases to describe how unrated or special it is. For the people who already got the regular verison before the special one comes out, they'll just have to spend more money.

I just don't get why they just don't make the Special Edition the ONLY edition. It's really lame.

Gold package has been out as long as HL2 Vanilla and even a little longer AFAK.

I know what you mean about DVD's and such, but I don't think ever gamer has the money to buy all those extra doodad's that come with HL2 Gold just because they want HL2.

I got the Collectors edition just because I wanted the shirt, but was crushed when I found out that there was a gold edition with the shirt and much more for much cheaper.

So yeah, I guess I see what you're comming at.

well, what i would actually suggest for them to do with half-life is just sell the games by themselves only, and sell the other stuff in a seperate package.

and another thing is that when i click on stuff that i want like Half-Life Source, it keeps bringing me to the Half-Life 2 Gold page because it includes Half-Life Source. Is there any way to get it without getting the entire package that i cant get anyway because i already have Half-Life 2?

Yea, AFAIK if you bought retail you can't upgrade to silver or gold or anything...so you cant get HL:S.
But HL:S isn't that special, its DoD:S that you want, which might be sold retail so you might not have to purchase through steam


And I agree, unrated versions of stuff r stupehd.

They do sell that stuff seperate, its called the internet, valve has a online store u can buy all of what came with it, u want the strat guide, buy it, u want a shirt, buy it, u can even buy the 3 posters that came with the game, ive yet to see the postcard/sticker or the soundtrack anywhere else though, but thats why they include it al in there, so they make more, MONEY!!! i don't have any major complaints about the different packages.
i do wish tho that the Gold package and the retail CE package were both a bit better.
almost every HL2.net member here wanted some sort of plush headcrab toy and had they incuded such an item.. it alone would have made both of these packages worth the cash which was shelled out.

Why would you want that extra stuff anyway? I'd have nowhere to place the posters, furthermore, I'd rather have a poster of a tuned up BMW. I'd be embarrassed to wear the shirt, too. "Hey, look at me! I'm a geeky Half-Life 2 fan!".

I have to agree with Immunity. Half-Life 2 ain't worth all that extra shit.

After all, 99% of all other PC games don't bother with that crap, but you all treat HL2 as if it's the Second Coming or something.

I wouldn't want the t-shirt. It only comes in XL so it'd be too big anyway. I just think it's dumb that people who are buying it late get all the rewards. The posters and stuff aren't that important, but HL:S? DoD:S? Come on, that's just cruel valve.
