A number of Half-Life 2 customers have been experiencing problems while playing the game, these issues have been traced to corrupt Steam cache files. A Steam update has been released to help resolve these issues. If you have been experiencing problems such as crashing during gameplay or startup of Half-Life 2, please restart Steam and then click on one of the links below. Steam will then automatically verify your cache files. The verification process will take roughly five minutes to complete.

Is anyone finding that this helped?
My friend said his graphic/wireframe problem was solved after he had deleted his registry entrys for Steam, then running this.

meh, i ran all of them and nothing has changed. they were all validated.

This fixed my problem. The first time i uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked, then the 2nd time i reinstalled it again, then the 3rd time i verified. I think what it is is that if it is crashing at specific spots every time (like mine) then its probably a missing or corrupt file. If it is messing up randomly ever 5 minutes or something but you can keep playing, it is probably something with your hardware.

At least that is what my best bet would be.
