Steam "encounters and error and needs to close" when I try to buy games.

I logged onto Steam the other day and found that Indigo Prophecy (also called Fahrenheit) is for sale at $9.95. I heard pretty good things so I decided to buy it. When I get to the page to buy it, Steam says it has "encountered an error and needs to close". I tried buying more popular games, just to see if the glitch applies to them too, and it does. Bioshock, Max Payne, anything. I can't buy games even over the Steam website in my browser.

And no, my account isn't put on some kind of hold or anything.

Reinstall the software.

If it's not that then it'll be a problem with the credit card # you entered, which would be a very bad thing, so lets rule that out for now. (Unless you did a typo)

Try deleting clientregistry.blob in your steam folder. if that doesn't work, try deleting everything except steam.exe and your SteamApps folder.

Fahrenheit is a fun game, despite the QTEs, enjoy it

Nothing worked. A friend of mine says he's having the same problem trying to buy games and is suggesting the latest update screwed things up.
