steam keep trying to update

hi can anyone help me my steam trys to update its self ervery time i play cs:source .the grey update box opens but nothing happens ?? also i cant get a full server list on the main internet list only get about 100 servers can anyone help me out ????? ;(

I have had the same with HL2 for the past 2 days. Steam says it's updating and then displays a progress bar which never starts. Shortly after that HL2 starts as normal.

Steam managed to finally update itself last night (Oz time).
