Steam Offline mode?! WTF?!

Well when hl2 first game out i was at uni and was stuck behind a firewall, so i took me pc up to the local lan and registerd on steam and all that jazz, got home and it was working fine. Untill a few weeks befor my xmas holidays and offline just decided to stop working, i thought fair enough, im home in a cople of weeks and i can connect it up to the net, get the updates and re-enter my username and password and make sure its saving it. I thought it was working but it seems its not. When i turn on steam it searchs for a net connection, dosnt find one and asks if i want to play in offline mode, i click yes and then i get the error > Cannot connect to steam network. This maybe due to your internet connection.

I dont get why its asking for a connection when im trying to play in offline mode, any one know how i can sort this without getting on the internet.

pfff, you´re not the only one. I´m wondering if the offline mode is working at all. Yesterday, my internet connection stopped working all day for some reason, and I got exactly the same error when I tried to start HL2 offline mode.. :/

I searched on the Steam forum and alot of people have that problem. I hope Steam will take care of it. It never happened to me but it sounds really anoying.

They're working on the speed of my connection so it will be down sometimes. I think I'll have the same error as you .

I'm online and I'm getting 'game is not ready to bre played in offline mode' wtf is that about?

I play it online a lot and just as I want to play the actual game I cant.

bah, im guessing no one has any ideas no hl2 for me for another 12 weeks or so

Go into the Steam settings (specifically "account") and make sure that "don't save account information on this computer" is NOT ticked, otherwise offline mode won't work.

I had the same problem. There was a Steam Client Update released that fixed offline mode failing after not connecting to Steam for more than a month

i have almost the same prob, only mine wont even connect, yet alone allow me to play offline.

Arrgghh I hope I can play it, I had to take my pc up to uni a week early. I did copy my clientregistry.blob onto my usb drive, that always seemed to be cropping up in offline problems (or maybe I'm stupid )

Same thing happend to me!! Download the latest update, they now have a fix for it :thumbs:
