Steam slows my PC down, help?

When I boot up my PC and steam runs, it freezes everything for nearly a minute. I've never had any problems like this with my pc either. Does someone know what I could do? It's so shitty!

Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
9800 Pro
40GB 7200 RPM

simple answer disable the start steam when windows boots feature or run msconfig as a run command go to boot sector and disable the steam process :cheers:

go to settings in steam..then interface...then uncheck run steam when windows starts
