hi, i have a problem that occurs when i start half life that i that has only just cropped up.

when i start the game it will close when it gets to the initial loading screen with this error message saying "failed to set video mode - resetting to defaults. game will now restart with the new video settings".

the game will do this twice before telling me "this game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 7.0 compatible hardware".

i have been playing this game since it came out with no problem but i had to format my hard drive recently and it has not worked since. i have not upgraded any hardware, i have directX 9.0c and an nvidia geforce mx440 (which i know is old).

can someone please help

Yea before i got my new computer resently, i couldn't play hl2 with the newest drivers...I had that MX440 too, it messed the colors up real good and the screen flicked like hell. So i downgraded my drivers a version or two and problem solved...might work for you...

But now that i have my new computer thats the least of my worries.. :rolling: :D

Yeah, I've recently complained about z-fighting (basically, texture interference) on lots of signs in HL, and that could be due to my using the latest DirectX, whereas I should go back to older DX to make the problems go away.

But I won't.

I had to roll back my driver after updating because of the same message...
