Stuck at elevator

i just left the vortagaunt at the top of the elevator and headed down by placing a barrels on the lift. When i got to the bottom, i defeated the enemies but i cannot find a way to get the elevator to wait while i run from the switch to the platform. I see a large beam in the other room but i dont think that is the way to stop the elevator's movement. Please help

You need three beams in order to make the lift wait for you. Two should be in that room, and the other should be on the lift you went down on. Switch the switch to make the lift ascend, hop on, and then knock the beams off so it'll go up.

but what do i do with those beams?

Use the Gravity Gun to put them on the lift you use to ascend. This will make the lift rise slower, allowing you time to get on. Once you're on, knock them off.
