stuck at first stacking puzzle?

I have barely started the game and I'm totally stuck: towards the start ofthe Route Kanal, I had to go underwater to wait for the security forces that are after to blow up some barrels, then I get to this area with broken cars, washers and trash containers: I killed all the bad guys but now I can't figure out how to get out.
I assume that I'm supposed to stack crates to get out but I can't figure out where. There are inclined metal grills on on side of the area with concrete area in between but I still can't seem to stack anything high enough to get out.
I muyst be missing something but I have tried for a long time and I can't figure it out... what am I missing?

I honestly don't remember EVER stacking anything the whole game to get places... Maybe once in Ravenholm... but where you're talking about, I believe there is a door off to the side somewhere?

If your trying to stack things, you are probably doing something wrong. The only time I remeber stackins things was somewhere in Red Letter Day.

The only time I stacked stuff was to create my ultimate zombie killer of doom! weapon. Which prompltly broke after i threw the middle piece at a zombie.

Looked real nice though.
