Stuck in 2nd chapter

I know that I'm probably missing some incredibly obvious detail, but I'm in the 2nd chapter trying to stabalize the reactor. I've gotten the first beam to hit the reactor, and I've used the grav gun to get through the passageway and now I'm in the room with the force field and several guards. Now I can't find where to go next. There's a large door that I can fire the grav at, but it has no effect. There's also a platfor to the reactor that kills me as soon as I approach it. So what detail that is hidden in plain sight am I missing?

Well that's just the thing, after I got the first beam going and got to where I am now, I can't find another one of those things to shoot an energy ball into. I'm just after the spot where you crawl through a small passage and a machine fires 4 energy balls at you at various intervals. You have to grab them and crawl through to another passage on the left. Then you blow through a grate with the grav gun and you are in the room where there is one energy ball that powers a force field. Once you shut down that force field you are lead out to the reactor and the door that I can't do squat with.

Look for a window that's slightly broken? I think that's the bit. You can grab one of the energy balls from there.

Well there is a window above me, but it's pretty much indestructable. The only energy balls that I can grab are running up the side of the reactor chamber to my right as I enter. I'm on the 3rd level of the chamber with nothing inbetween me and the slow moving fan above the reactor. There is a ledge above that, but no platoform extending from it.

No. There's two of them working, but one is on the other side of the chamber and out of reach. It's the main reactor chamber with the gigantic goregous ball in it that kills you when you touch it. The big door that I can zap with the grav gun has a red and white border and the number 2 is on the right side of it. I've managed to get one large beam to fire at the giant ball.

That bit puzzled me for a bit, I think you're at the bit where u gotta sneak past the pulsating core (when it is contracting), enabling you to consequently get to the next beam

Haha amazing. When I tried that first time, I got hit - went down to 20hp. I was desperately trying not to get hit again, even at 2hp I was getting somewhere. But then one stray bullet got me, and I had to go back.
