stuck on canals

I've walked on the wooden planks across the water to find the airboat. Now I want to hop into the boat. But for some stupid reason I don't get into the boat. I've tried everything (I think;-) : walking, jumping,...
How do I enter the boat? ( which keys...? :-((

Seems most of the HL "stuck" posts happen on Canals and Water hazard! Maybe it's just because its the start of the game. Although, I think the puzzle to shooting ratio is higher towards the beginning of the game too.
