I just found a new CSS error. Take a look at this screenie for more info

de_dust0027.jpg

Look, that's a large line of skin, and it keeps appearing when i look a certain way. Weird huh? Thoughts people.

*Taken on our very own CSS server*

oh my god that's horrible! ;) Hope they fix it :afro:

haha. But it's annoying. Oh, and it's also whenever the step of an animation comes around.

If you know what I mean... :D

Edit: Also only appears (Or so I think) when I'm holding a pistol. I haven't had the error with Grenades, a machinegun, or the knife.

Suggestions?

Edit2: Oh, and in the meantime, it helps me aim a bit better:
"Shoot only when my long line of skin is going through the enemies face".

I think turning V-Sync on gets rid of tearing and whatnot. Give it a try! ;)

The deagle looks awesome in that pic. SOOO REALLLL. I like the line , you always know where the bullets go. Kind of reminds me of a mod in 1.5 where when you shoot there would be trajectory pathways from your bullets, if you guys remember that far back.

thats your card. had the same prob with doom3. reinstall drivers or get the latest, and install dx9.0c, yes dx9.0'c', not 'b'. that solved the problem for me :E

i also say its your card due to your fps :E (43-ouch. i get around 80-120 lol)

Ti's an artifact. Or some kinda bug in the rendering code. or something.

I get those in most DX9 games. Very annoying.

That's pretty cool :D you can see directly where your bullet is gonna go ;)

Not the slightest clue :)

Hehe RTC.

Also to Pureball, I have DX 9.0 c installed, and my card is a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb :P, so it can't be that to my knowledge.

Anyway, it's gotten worse. Look at this:
... Hmm... seems it didn't take the screenie. Anyway it was a tad bit larger than before, covering almost 1/4th of teh screen.

I can't at the moment because now whenever I try logging onto a server it says that my map "dust.bsp" differs from the server's. Which is slightly annoying. Will try ASAP though, don't you worry ;)

That is an artifact and is a rendering error caused by a problem with your video card, not a bug in the game. However the more stressful a game is on the video card, the higher the chance of getting artifacts and the more severe they will be which is why you may only encounter this problem in some games. DX9 level games such as Farcry, Doom 3 and Half-life 2/CS:S are the most stressful games out there and may cause artifacts when every other game runs fine.

Artefacts can be the result of your card being overclocked too far, the card overheating, an insufficient PSU or bad GPU / memory module(s).

The artifact that you are getting is typical of an overheating GPU.

Try taking the side panel off your case and set up a desk fan to blow over the card and see if this fixes the problem. You can also try underclocking the card using an overclocking utility such as Rivatuner (works with both Nvidia and ATI) which will also reduce the temperature.

If this fixes the problem then the problem is overheating. How hot is the inside of your case? If it is very hot then there's nothing wrong with the card itself as it is being caused by excessive case temperatures. This can be fixed by adding some more case fans.

If your case temperature is reasonable then the problem is with the card. Feel the temperature of the core by touching the backside of the PCB opposite the core (it is a bare patch on the back centre of the PCB opposite the centre of the heatsink surrounded with a square of small rectangular components). If it is too hot to touch then your card is running very hot and is likely overheating.

Most likely the heatsink is making poor contact with the GPU core, which does happen with a small % of cards. If this is the case it can likely be fixed by refitting the heatsink so that it makes proper contact with the core. If this doesn't work, or if it can't be made to make good contact then it may be fixed by attaching a better 3rd party cooler. I would recommend the appropriate model from the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer series.

The problem with refitting or replacing the heatsink is that it may not fix the problem and it voids the warranty, so if it doesn't work you’re left with a faulty card with no warranty which you can't replace. Since an overheating card is considered faulty it can be replaced under warranty, which is a much safer bet than trying to fix the problem yourself.

If the problem isn’t caused by excessive case temperatures (or a poor quality PSU), I would recommend getting the card replaced under warranty since it is a faulty card (even if it can be fixed) and there is no risk.

Hehe, thanks for all that. The artifacts have stopped now I underclocked my card slightly.

Anyway, now I crash to desktop. there's a forum thing about it, but apparently the steam forums won't let me view it.

type r_renderoverlayfragment 0 in console or something rather, i cant quite remember the command. Should be something like that anyway. Worked for me, though i thought they fixed it in some recent updates. Hope this helps

**EDIT**

Oops, came a bit late. Still i had a similar problem and i could fix it in the console.
