I accidentally killed a member of the mage's guild and now I am suspended. I have to get 20 vampire dust and 20 daedra hearts to get back in. Has anyone completed this or know how to do this without having to go out of the way?

The same thing happened to me on Fighter's Guild. They want me to collect 20 bear pelts.

Quickload? lol.

Honestly, if you really want to stay in without having to kill 20 vampires (a hard task indeed, I've obtained obly about 50 over the whole 80 hours I've played) and trudging through dozens of Oblivion planes (where you find the hearts), just reload a previous save.

You can sometimes also find vampire dust in aylid ruinds.

Personally I would just eat the mistake, much more fun if your character is not "officially" perfect.

DON'T DO IT AGAIN!! You don't have unlimited freebies with these guilds! I think it might even be less than 3 strikes and yer out! Careful! Always have clean saves at the ready!

It's not that I want to be "perfect." I just need grand soul gems for free so I can cure my silly vampirism. The other problem is, I didn't realize that this was such a big deal and I played on. I played for about two hours and gained a lot of ground after my save before I killed the guy, so it's too late to just go back and re-load.

Well, that should teach you to save more often

I do a normal save every once in a while, but since quicksaves are instant I do them all the time, after killing a few enemies, before buying/selling goods or having an important conversation. It's just a habit now. Probably overkill but better do that than find out that you've just wasted a few minutes-hours of playing.

Well you could always use the duplicate exploit. Not sure if it works with Vampire dust though.

raaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

come back!

Quick-save often. :)

P.S. Also note that there is a backup quicksave & backup autosave on the PC version. Just go to the Mydocuments\mygames\opblivion\ and there will be something like quicksave.ess and quicksave.bak.

Same thing happened to me when I accidentally stole from the Mage's Guild (in my defence, that potion was about the only thing in the entire place that was red, and I didn't notice until it was too late :x). Anyway, my last quicksave was way back before I'd done a quest or two and it autosaved me the moment I was booted out the front door, so I was stuck with it. In my case it was 20 Redwort Flower and 20 Dragon's Tongue, of which I found only a few of each before I abandoned the character :P

20 bear pelts sounds alot easier, and something I actually wouldn't mind doing since it involves hunting.

In an emergency like that I just turn off whilst it's loading, before it can save. :D

I am one Vampire Dust from being re-accepted! I can't wait because I was really enjoying the recommendations and I'd only done two. Shame that Dark Brotherhood quest pretty much made you kill a member of the MAges Guild.
