tell me more about MMORPGs

Yeah but an FPS has that intensity all the way through.

Your view of combat in MMORPGs is warped, its not simply cast spell, kill, eat food, lvl up. No more then an FPS is simply clicking on the screen where the head is, kill, reload, move to next room.

In WoW for certain, the amount of spells and talents and different equipment allows for a lot of varied play styles, all of which require different tactics and good reflexes and a cool head in order to overcome not just other players, but also the AI opponents in the game.

I play both FPS and MMORPG and i'd say that FPS combat is on par in terms of intensity with that of a MMORPG. Especially in terms of the differences of intensity when fighting AI and when fighting other people.

If MMORPG combat was more intense, frequent and realistic then that of an FPS or at the same level or near then, then FPS games would suck ass and no one would like them. I don't see how that would be so seen as much, much more time is put into combat parts of the game in an FPS then an MMORPG. (assumption but a very safe one.)

I can't belive I am arguing that multiplayer FPS combat is more intense then MMORPG combat. What the hell? I thought everyone just knew this.

I'm not sure why this has turned into an argument about intensity either, I was just trying to point out earlier that MMORPG's aren't just click, kill, eat games like you suggested...

But in my opinion it's like this:

Combat intensity: ranges from very little(killing a couple of grunts in FPS or killing trash mobs in RPG) to high(hard boss fights in both) in both games

Intensity per hour played: FPS > MMORPG, undoubtedly

MMO is very much (at least in my experiance) keep clicking ur best attack.. over.. and over.. and over.. oh heal spell.. attack.. over.. and over.. and over.. rinse and repeare FPS > MMO i just like the expansive worlds =P.

FPS is like "I GET BANGE LIKE WOAH !"
MMO is im gunna level up and pwn you, revenge ftw

Alright. But what they don't have is a huge expansive environment, an utterly engaging level up/better equipment/capitalism process and the same kind of social element as standard. Two different worlds, really. Apples and oranges. Although WoW Battlegrounds is actually often more fun (and just as intense) as Battlefield 2. :D

Played a few trials here and there of MMO's, played Neocron for 2 years, had 8 characters and 2 accounts (its a FPS-MMORPG) which was good fun, better PvP (player Vs player) than any game i've ever played seriously, plenty of germans though spamming their shite all the time. Played WoW (beta's included) since October~ 2004 and can vouch for this as a first time MMO, its so straight forward. Go try it, if you don't like WoW you won't like any other MMO. WoW is easily the most user friendly and fun to play.
