TF2 Models into 3DSMAX

Oh man, what I wouldn't give to be able to animate the TF2 models in 3dsmax. I've tried milkshape 3D to mdl > SMB or whatever it is, and no dice.. It just crashes.. Anyone else have any luck?

yeah it's quite a roundabout way to be able to extra them... the only way I know is to use the 3dsmx 7 smd importer
 
Wait, you were able to get them into SMD format? I can't get them from MDL to SMD. What is the process.. I do have max7.

You need to have a model decompiler, in order to decompile *.mdl and get the *.smd file (mesh).
 
After a little perusing, it seems the consensus is the current batch of decompilers don't work with the newer halflife models. I hope someone gets on that. Why doesn't Valve have any tools like that in their SDK?

Awesome! Now all I need to do if figure out how to get this stuff into Max with morph targets.
 
I was able to get the models and textures into Max via help from people here. Anyone know where I could get my hands on the facial morph targets they have for these TF2 models. I have imported all the SMD's and I am not seeing them.

Any ideas? Sorry, I'm kind of new to this halflife model stuff. But I've been a Max user for 7 years.

I'm afraid; you can't get the morph targets. Here are some facts you need to know:

-Model Decompiler is a very old tool (it was last updated back in 2K5). The guy who worked on the program disappeared long time ago.
-All the Orange Box games use Facial Animation 3 system.
