This'llprobably be closed in about 3 seconds, but I just wanted to say this.

Ok, so it now looks like there's going to be a delay (well, now more than ever). But it's still coming out, and this year by the looks of things.
Now it's true that Valve have really f*cked this up. They really haven't played this well by dropping this bombshell a mere week before release. Not good.
But now all of a sudden there's this monumental backlash against Valve like they're the ultimate evil.
They screwed up. Yeah it's a shame but for Christ's sake: They're just human and they just made an error of judgement. All those people who're whining and bitching like it's the end of the world should really just back up and calm down.
Besides, it may not be their fault...

All I'm saying is that whilst this is annoying, the last thing we need is for everyone to make things even MORE intolerable by flaming Valve constantly.
They're still giving you the game so try and be optimistic and stop being so ungrateful.

Rant ends.

...well, we will be paying for it :P (just messin with ya).

Personally I'm not bothered about the delay

Please don't be angry at Valve, a lot of you sound like spoilt children (may be not far from the truth in come cases) they tried to get it done for sept 30th, they probably honestly thought it would be done by that date, otherwise they wouldn't have said so, but if they get into last minute problems with some detail that look like they need a complete overhaul, then you get a last minute delay. And they've been so busy trying to get it out that they haven't been releasing regular updates.

I'm glad Valve waited so long before annouced, they annouced Doom3 way back and that's been a long wait. I'm used to waiting for games, and I'm I'm honest I'm pleased that it has been pushed back - I expected a delay so it didn't really come a shock. I've got a lot of work to do this term, if it comes out at Christmas I'll actaully have time to play it. And I'll be able to afford a graphics card, and the mod teams will have more time to finish thier models.

Just think of the old Guiness adverts (good things come to those who wait).

Think about this and make contructive comments. Oh, wait no, this is a HL2 forum, erm just flame me with poorly concieved bdly structured insults. Suggestion: 'Your GAY'

yea...I want to know the facts of WHY they had to delay it. probably something stupid that wasn't their fault.

Frankly i couldn't give half a shit if HL2 is delayed, because there is so much else to do, im affraid when i get HL2 im going to be a missing person and the police will be looking for me for 3 months.
heh :)

I honestly don't believe that they have known about a delay since July.

This could've been a conscious decision from Gabe that said "Yeah, we could have it finished but it's not as good as we want, we'll give ourselves a month or two".

Although, it would've been nice if they told us earlier.

Same. Sept 30th is the start of my Uni so I wouldn't get to play it for at least 2 weeks after. Unless I wanted a reputation as a hermit.

Baal - you're right, an explanation'd be lovely and we'll get one if we're patient. Unless it's Vivendi's fault, in which case we'll get a very bad covering excuse.

if I just get some more videos and updates I won't be too mad.

I'm not suprised and I wouldn't have been bothered with a delay assuming it would prolly be a couple of weeks....but I'm bothered that it's a rather long delay considering their confidence in sep.30th

5 years. And they can always patch it, like they did with HL ;(

LMAO!

The problem is not the delay itself, if the game is unfinished then it takes more time. It's just that if this 'official delay' is confirmed Valve would have played a very wierd game and made fun of the HL community. I think this is the main problem, because it would damage Valve's reputation for being very close to the community. Be sure that if the delay is for sure they knew about it also 2 weeks ago.

I know what you mean. Things are very confusing at the moment but Valve have always been so close to the community that their reason for playing the odd game they have HAS to be a good one.

why didnt valve give a better margin of error.
Instead of saying 30th of September why not 1st of November.
We didint know back then how close to gold they were.
Pity but still better late than never

personally, although I think this is a crap situation, I'm actually not blaming valve.

I truley believe that HL2 IS finished....I think the game is complete and COULD be shipped out. Valve, the developers HAVE done their work and met the target.

What is more likely is that the publisher VIV...VEVNI.....whoever it is has decided to delay the release date till the holidays.....another money spinning tactical move by greedy fat cat bastards.

and the the thing is.....Valve probably did not know themselves and most definatley have no control over it.....and worse of all....Valve will be the ones that take all the shit from us fans.

Taz

Sadly, they WILL take the flak. And if it was Vivendi's decision that's resulted in the delay, they'll NEVER admit to it.

The thing I find particularly frustrating is that Valve has taken this opportunity to give their most loyal fans a swift kick in the nads. That just hurts, man.
