I have been thinking, the G-man may be more powerful than we thought. Think about it, he was probably controlling Lamar when he jumped into the portal, which caused most of the games occurrences. Either mind control or, which could be interesting, he IS a head crab. G-man is the human embodiment but can change back to head crab form on demand. Actually, I do not believe that at all, but it sounded cool. Anyway, that’s just a thought that the G-man caused Lamar to jump into the teleportation portal.

I don't know if G-man has that much control, i.e. power over any and all physical events.

Otherwise, why would he need Gordon at all?

We know that Head crabs are fairly simple and, for lack of better words, 'di' run creatures. Maybe he cannot take control over a human, but a little runt like Lamar?

I think that the gman snuck into the room when nobody was looking and put a little trail of brain matter leading lamar to the pipe and out.

I'd like to note that lamar in the portal didn't cause most of the game's occurances at all. It only allowed valve to add the getting to BME segment with the waterboat and all that cool stuff. They wanted the teleport to fail on gordon and not on alyx, and they came up with a humorous means of doing so.

Also note that if anything was controlling lamar, it would make more sense that the vortigaunts were in a joint effort. The telepathic abilities of many vortigaunts working together could surely overwhelm the mind of a single headcrab with no reason to disobey.

It DID put most of the game in motion. If you remember, Gordon was going to be doing scientist work. This teleportation problem caused the search for Gordon.

Is it just me or is Lamar cute as hell? I just kept smiling when I saw him jumping and catching those crows when you get teleported :P

It`s probably just you. I think the headcrabs are ugly as hell!! :E

even if he'd teleported successfully, Dr. Mossman would have immediately clued the citadel in on gordon's arrival - just as she did when he arrived on foot. The only difference would have been a few hours of travel time and a few unimportant weapons which gordon wouldn't have been able to pick up. The entire portion of the game between red letter day and BME could easily have been skipped, the only reason it was created was to break up all the dialogue and squeeze in some cool airboat sequences which wouldn't otherwise have fit into the game. Seeing the gman on vortivision could easily have been fit somewhere else.
