I dont care if someone has posted this before, but i'm fedup of too many whining kiddies.

There IS A story in half-life 2, if you can't see it.. then your stupid.

You turn up in City 17, you go to the lab. Teleportation messes up.. etc etc, Eli gets Captured.

It's all part of a story. For example, in a film Person X could get captured, Person B attempts to rescue Person X with Person A who happens to be a relative of Person X. They rescue Person X.. but tragically Person A Gets killed.
(Yes, basically.. the half life 2 storyline).

the Storyline is staring you in the face, if you can't see it.. well, your stupid.

(Sorry if it didn't make much sense.. i didn't know how to word it properly.)

Uhh... I don't think that there are any people disagreeing that there's an actual story in the game, because it's blindingly obvious that there is. Most people are talking about how the whole invasion plot isn't very well explained.

Look more closely in some threads.

Yup. About a thousand people have said the exact same thing, and none of them could prove it.

What people are complaining about is the minimalist style of the narrative (which is NOT a bad thing - I much prefer it than having it spoonfed to me) not that there isn't a story.

But people should have realized that the Half Life franchise has its own way of telling a story - through the eyes of Gordon and that you don't know anything that he doesn't know. Valve prefers that you use your imagination to fill in the blanks and have fun speculating.

Marc Laidlaw said that it's a "risky" way of telling a story and that it would likely turn off some people but when you push the envelope, that's the risk you take.

A-ha! It's that word again! This is getting surreal.

Yeah, yeah, old news. Valve wants us to imagine the story so they don't have to write one. Yes, really risky and innovative and avantgarde. Whatever.

Like I said, it's not for everyone :)

But over at IGN, we're really enjoying speculating about it!

That's because it is - tsk tsk tsk that you can't see that

I thought many apsects of the story were pretty obvious, maybe you were just too stupid to get it?

You've got to take notice of the little details, not just rush through it like you're playing DooM or something.

Sorry for the flame, but you've dragged me down to your level, well done!

When you make a movie and leave lot's of blank spots you cannot just say it's becuase you want the viewers to use their imagination or it's part of the movie franchise.

While there is a storyline in halflife, and I understand what they are trying to accomplish at Valve, I personally think they have taken the easy and cheap way out.

It's just they COULD have done a much better job with story and especially the story telling etc. And they didnt.
Whether it's becuase the "writer" of the storyline isnt that talented or something else, I don't know and don't care.
But in the number of years they had something better could gave come out (should have come out if you ask me).
But perhaps they weren't free to do the story as they wanted to, who knows...

And I think lot's of people are just being thick here. When people complain about the "story" or the "story line". They mean the lack of information given (like said before).
They are not really saying (or meaning) there is no story. Ofcourse there is a story. Only the story is not so good if you ask me.
Could have been a lot better...
