The making of Half-Life 2

That halo thing was halarious! i remember seeing it a while ago.

I reckon that's a quite old video, but it is very nice indeed! :)

I guess there's alot of people who haven't seen it yet :)

I liked that thing they said about 30 seconds, since it's true if you think about it. Think of it this way, what do you do in Half-Life in the terms of entertaining stuff? Could you hit 30 seconds with that?
If I'd make a list, I would put these things:

Kill headcrabs with crowbar
Kill pretty much anything else with crowbar
Engage in firefight with smart marines
Use the satisfying doubleshotgun-shot to finish off a creature
Have barneys help you fight aliens
Watch fun scripted sequences involving scientists getting killed
Gib a marine or two with the MP5 grenade launcher
Various puzzle sequences

Depending on how detailed you go, you can add much much more, but it's pretty obvious that HL has at least 30 seconds of fun gameplay. That's why it was so fun to play!

Now, let's put Doom 3 under this test.

Scream in horror as another suddenly appearing creature makes you shit your pants
Chainsaw zombies to death
Play around with zombies, punch them and use the flashlight on them
Shit your pants to various scripted sequences
Shoot creatures with various weapons, shotgun, chaingun, plasma rifle
Use your flashlight to scavenge areas in maximum tension

Now, the weapons aren't that satisfying if you think of it, this is something that's very hard to achieve and requires the graphics, animations, effects and sound effects to work in perfect symbiosis, most of the weapons were slightly dull to kill with in my opinion.

I don't think all the things that are entertaining in Doom 3 make it to 30 seconds of specific things, and that's why the game gets very repetitive and dull since all those things you do are either related to shitting your pants or shooting creatures from hell. And I guess that's why most people say Doom 3 was very boring after a while.

Just my two cents :)

there will be the "final moments of" by gamespot, and teh raising the bar book, though those aren't movies, they're easier to copy&paste from O_o
