wasnt the whole purpose of Aftermath to show of the new HDR? if DOD source has already done that why didnt they release the 2 at the same time. Or is aftermath going to give us more of the story that we dont know?

They don't call it an expansion for nothing. It continues the story. You might be confusing it with The Lost Coast, which is a single scenario that is meant to show off a more powerful rendition of Source.

Yeah, sounds like you're thinking of lost coast. Aftermath is the next episode (probably 4 or 5 more chapters of HL2 chapter length) in the HL saga.

Replace Aftermath with The Lost Coast and I will agree with you entirely.

okay i just mixed up the 2 names but why didnt they come out at the same time.. but thanks for clearing that up for me..

Lost Coast is a scenario to show off the power of the source engine and to show that it can handle high res textures and HDR and double the polygon rates from HL2 etc.... It's HDR wont be "low-key" either.

Aftermath is a scenario to cotinue the story, pump the ai a bit, etc... It will have HDR but it should be "low-key" like DoD:S.

DoD:S is DoD's port to the source engine. DoD:S features "low-key" HDR that dosn't affect gameplay as much. New higher polgyon models, textures, redesigned levels, ragdolls from the old one. The polygon rates, texture sizes etc wont be anywhere near Lost Coast's.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Valve is waiting on ATI to release a Pixel Shader 3 card or something.

LC will also expand the HL story slightly.

omg why didnt they use the full graphics for half-life 2 , i always knew there was something foul. the graphics looked way too bad :\

Some of us like to be able to play the games we pay for... I guess we're sort of odd that way.

Firstly that would have delay Half-Life 2 even more - I think they were planning to include HDR in the initial release of Half-Life 2 but is was incomplete so they left it out, for the time being.

Secondly, it may have increased the minimum requirements, which may have been a disadvantage to some users. The time up to the release of The Lost Coast has allow some people, like me, to upgrade their systems.

omg will they finally add the new graphics that are shown in lost coast to half:life2 singleplayer ? that wouldbe cool.

no they won't because 95% of people will not be able to play it
and considering that hl2 is alomost at the pinnacle of current graphical beauty anyway i don't know what you're complaining about

The only games currently out that look better than HL2 are DOOM3 (and just slightly in the lighting category) and F.E.A.R.

So, please, stop being ignorant. ;)

Noo....they would need to recompile each level, levels would look shitter(not designed for HDR), and it would be over a 2gig download per person.

But it is not cool to wait another year for aftermath just to get HDR'rd HL2...
