In sandtraps when you have to use gav gun to get boxes to get up to a higher level, I just used the metal doors far away to get to the houses where the thing to turn on the thumper is. It took a while. Also in Nova Prospect or Entanglement, in the part with electric water, i used items to get across the water instead of jumping on the pipes. ;(
