I can't play HL2 (not E1). I've tryed restarting Steam and validating but nothing happens. It's fully updated and I can't play in offline mode either ;(

I'm sure you did.

Could there be something preventing Steam to access the Internet like, Windows firewall and or Windows Data Execution Prevention?
Give us more detailed description of what's going on with your Steam.
Is it loading at all? Are you logged into your account? When you click HL2, does Steam say launching?

I checked the Steampowered help section (should have done that in the first place ). Turns out some of my HL2 files were set to read-only. Thanks anyway Barney.
