This probably has been talked about before....

the starship troopers did pop into my mind. but not the aliens..
that is one reason why i dislike the antlions, because it looks like some starship trooper thing..
but i dont hate the antlions.. i just hope there are some cooler aliens..

Yeah the antlions do look like the star ship trooper movie (i really liked that movie Kon :P). The headcrabs are basic parasites....well not basic but aliens didnt come into my mind either.

The ST thing has been brought up before but I don't think the face huggers have been mentioned before.
 
The facehuggers and headcrabs aren't really that similar. One hooks onto the face and plants an alien embryo into a person's chest, it dies and falls off, and a new alien (chestburster) bursts through the chest and grows into the full grown drones. The other jumps onto the victim's head, takes control of their nervous system, and turns them into some kind of alien zombie. The only little similarity is they attack the face.
 
No, the face huggers look way different and the head crabs can control your body

Antlions are similar to ST, but face huggers and head crabs only have two things in common; they attach to your head and they are alien.
 
the antlions are really almost identical to the ST bugs, that's the first thing I thought when I saw them for the first time

I hope there will be cooler aliens besides of the hl1 ones
 
Make a starship troopers mod. It would be cool defending a fortress from many of those antlion things with 15 other people online.

Now that I see it the Antlions DO bare a striking resemblence to those monsters from Starship Troopers.
 
Actually, the only big similarity is that they're bugs, angular, yellow and four-legged (technically even, the ST bugs have six legs and are mostly black).

ST bugs have a huge pair of scissors for a face, while antlions... don't.
Also, thier body shapes and limb placement are compelely different. Shape-wise only the spike-feet are similar.

Headcrabs and the facehugger are only similar from having finger-like limbs and face-attacks.

Still, they're great designs. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve was inspired by them and used aspects of those bugs to create their own.
They just don't look the same.
 
When I look at the antlions, particularly the antlion guard, I am reminded of the zergs and hydralisks in Star Craft.
 
Now that you mention it, the antlion guard has a body shape very similar to the ST bugs.

He's just not as pointy and yellow, so nobody notices it. :)
 
Yeah the Antlion Guard looks alot like the Starship Troopers bug. I'm not saying it's a bad thing or that Valve ripped off the movie, it's just one of those things.

It will be interesting to see how many HL2 aliens look similar to Doom 3 demons.
 
I'd guess none, actually. Almost all the Doom 3 guys are humanoid, and that's not really the valve style.
 
Headcrabs: they take control of you atacking you head probaly cuz they go to the brain to take control of it
when the facehuggers implant a alien embrion on you

in my opinion are diferent

Antlions: they looks similiar to the ST bugs for the legs and the bug's shape similiarities
but still they are not the same
but I like the bugs of ST soo for my no problrm of that
